This topic has not been brought up in a while. My crock pot just went on me this shabbos (Jewish brand) any new ones out there that don't have shabbos issues that are good?

I bought the one Amazing Savings sells. It's not the insert type, so no hatmanah issues, and it even comes with a blech and a knob cover. The cholent comes out excellent.

BTW, there was a discussion upthread about hatmanah with the stoneware crockpots, and I don't think anyone described correctly what putting foil balls inside does.

By raising up the insert, the walls are no longer completely covered by the sides, rather, partially exposed to the air. Hence, it's not hatmanah. A wee bit would not be enough, it needs a significant amount.

Do you know the brand? Also do you remember the price?

No, no. Sorry.

I do know that it's their own product. I think I got the eight quart model for somewhere in the $40-$50 range.

Maybe due to the longer amount of time it is needed to be on

Shabbos is longer these days? If anything, in the summer it would be on longer if you make early shabbos.

I had this one for 5+ years.  Never loved it, but the versatility was nice.

Not sure how yours lasted so long but we went through three in five years and have since given up on it

I had a Hamilton Beach one for about 12 years. I only recently got a new one because the chord was stripping a little. Otherwise it worked fine. Used just about every week over that time.

Then I went to Walmart.com and got a new one for about $20.

What kind of issues are you guys having with these crockpots that don't make it?
