Even better its worth spending a bit for the free night now since the points will become UR anyways.

I wonder if I will even be able to get two free nights out of this although the timing is a bit close on my card.

Finish 12k by aug 1st statement close. spend another 6k after that before the 15th?

or since I did the 12k I won't get the extra one for 6k?

Seems like they might be independent.

So you're saying spend $12k to end up with a free Fairmont night and 12k UR?

How do I figure out the exact day I can start spending for the next years free night. Is it based on the statement closing date or actual account anniversary based on card opening date? or Af posting date?

I want to verify through Chase as to the possibilities of what you have suggested.   What do you think is the best way to ask the question of Chase?  Phone or SM?  I have a July 8 close date and have already spent my $12K for this year.  I then hope that spending $6K by Aug 14th gets me another night.

Points will be transferred to UR.
Will a Fairmont rewards account with a negative balance be converted into a UR acct with a negative balance, or with 0 points?

I would go the other way personally, spend and then complain after that you did exactly that.

.

My wife has had the Fairmont card since 2012, spending $12K each year.  Her cardmember year ends on 7/9/17; she has already spent her $12K this cardmember year and is set to receive a complimentary night.

We called Chase this evening and spoke with a CSR who added a note to her account confirming that, if she spends $6K between 7/10/17 and 8/14/17, she will receive an additional complimentary night, good through 2/28/18.

As for me, I got my second Fairmont card on 1/17/17 (having cancelled my first card in 2013).  I have already spent $3K and have my 2 nights.  The CSR tonight confirmed that an additional $3K spend by 8/14/17 will allow for me to get another complimentary night.

There was never an anniversary night for this card, correct?  Just the night for spending 12k.

Yes, you can downgrade. I assume you won't be able to get another anniversary night, but it goes by cardmember year, not calendar year. Your entire points balance will become UR

I haven't used my Certs, are they usually easy about extending them a year, like the Ritz?

Not a year, but a month or two.  A little longer if you have a specific booking to make.
