I can't seem to remember whether or not I ended up switching, but I'm pretty sure I got some kind of compensation if I did...
I seem to remember that I had kept the car past the time I reserved for and that's when it happened.

I once rented in Nanuet Avis:
When I came in the lady told me I can't rent Im underage. (i think I was 19 at the time) I said what do u mean I'm part of a corprate. She said you need ID. I gave her my "business" credit card - Amex Blue under my name, and " the business was the same as the corprate". Obviously the bill came to me.

She looks at it, makes a face and said fine.
Then I hand her my licence, and she drops it behind the counter!

she starts yelling at me why didnt i hand it to her.... AND I CANT RENT BEC I DONT HAVE A LICENCE!

Mamzares!!

I try to get it out, nothing doing.
I tell her i have another licence at home.... I gave her my permit ;) she felt bad and gave me a purple charger.

got the rental free plus $150 or so in coupons.

This is going back about 6 years. I used to rent a lot through Avis using lev laachim account(aluv hashalom)-with permission. Must have been after some 15 , 20 rentals. I picked up a car for 11 days ,return and they don't wave the underage fee as was usually done ! So that adds a good 250$. So of course I call cs and they tell me that if I can provide an RA number from a prior rental from that location then they will remove the fee....sounds good... So I finally dig up an old receipt call back and get some nasty lady who would not honor what I was told (of course I had no way to prove). Hang up. A month later get letter in the mail that I am on the DNR list !! ........after many phone calls including the head of DNR dept. finally got it removed. Now I am currently at the highest level for all the company's(not Avis chrmn).hrtz prsdnts,Avis presents & national EE.

i rented 3 times from hertz park slope Brooklyn returning in JFK or LGA (i always find that much cheaper then taking a taxi) and twice they have given me a car which had a lot of millage and needed repair in some parts inside the car - apparently they were trying to get rid of it so they sent it to the airport

had just the opposite they gave me the car on empty and accidentally marked it as full which I got charged after returning it to dif location and was in big rush to catch flight to call that location
If billing doesn't help I have a number that works

Maybe scoring brownie points with the manager?
At the end of the day the higher the numbers of that branch the better for the manager, and they don't look and see where the numbers came from..
There's definitely corruption in rental locations, I know from experience..

Rented at Sixt in MIA a few days ago. I asked for an upgrade due to being Platinum. I previously had been upgraded fom a standard to premium SUV. This time the agent refused even a one class upgrade.  She wanted $30 a day to go from a mid-size to full-size

A friend of mine was overcharged $20 for fuel So he took the survey and marked 1 to everything and wrote a horrible report, the next day the Manager called him up and had it all fixed up.
Though this might not with in Brooklyn
