im flying lot airlines to poland in a group is the miles worth anything?

lot is a member of star alliance so you can choose to receive your miles in say, continental

You just need to give LOT your Continental mileage number.

Depends for who, I suppose if you need to fly from Tel Aviv to Europe than Lufthansa will be better than Continental, but not for most people.
