Unfortunately I am unable to honor your request to receive
a $75.00 annual fee and the additional 50,000 bonus Avios
upon the first year anniversary instead of receiving
25,000 bonus Avios after both the $10,000.00 and $20,000
spending thresholds. I apologize for the inconvenience

I'm not so surprised. My take is that:

They typically match offers, not spend amounts.

IME, when manual points are posted to match ("adjusted") spend amount, you can double dip by spending the required amount of the original offer and those points will post automatically.

I dont understand! Why cant you match that offer? I was
told by numerous Chase reps that they would match any
nontargeted offer as long as i request it within 90 days
of opening the account. Why is this one not being matched?

You can ask for that lady. I think you (we) have a very valid claim. Just explain it and as always be courteous and nice, asking in a way that you would greatly appreciate any help with this issue... Love to hear back what she says...

I doubt she would, just say you saw it on their website. If that doesn't work maybe say- When you got the offer did you have to actually buy the ticket? No you didn't hence why should this be different? You know many people whom opened the card and didn't have to buy a ticket. OR say you already bought the ticket but you already had the card, OR say you will buy a ticket and purchase a refundable ticket.

You could also say you 1. bought a ticket and didn't take them up on the ba.com offer because you just opened it through a separate promotion on chase.com. Although now you would like to be matched to the ba.com promotion. 2. You know a lot of people that opened the ba.com promo even without buying a ticket. and 3. If you insist I'll even buy a ticket right now as long as I receive the match that I believe I am entitled to as per the T&C of chase bank.

Not on the merits of matching, though heavy spenders do have a better chance at getting high-amount courtesy points.

She basically told me that she can only do manual changes (e.g. lower the annual fee, add to my bonus, etc.), but cannot change the fundamentals of the plan i signed up for. Therefore, about lowering the annual fee to 75, that she can do (and did), but she cannot schedule another 50,000 at the first anniversary because she is worried that i might hit the spending threshold and get the 100,000 (which again, she cannot remove since it is embedded in my plan - which she cannot change...) and doesnt want me to get the second 50,000 twice. Therefor, she told me that if at year's end i dont hit the spending threshold, i should call her again and she will add the 50,000. She also told me that she made a note by my account of all of the above so when i call in i shoudnt have any issues.

So basically, i guess i can say i successfully got it matched!

My only question is whether i can get the second year's miles without paying the second year's annual fee (which i suppose will only be $75)?

A friend of mine sent me this. Not sure if it was mentioned on this forum or not. It's good for 50k after your first charge and another 50k after one year.

Apparently this only works with chrome.

1. open an incognito window on google chrome.
2. go to the BA site and search for a one-way flight from chicago to london on an upcoming saturday (i chose june 23). it should price out to around $1400.
3. hit continue a bunch until you get to passenger details.
4. enter your details on this page. you MUST select YES that you are the name on the card that will be paying.
5. you should come to a screen that says “earn 100,000 avois” which gives you the option to apply for the card. if you instead came to the payment screen, CLOSE the incognito window, open a new one and repeat.
6. choose “Yes, I’d like to pay for this flight using my new card.” you will NOT actually have to pay for the flight. click on apply now.
7. it will show the details of your flight along with a big price. hit “continue to credit card application.”
8. after you complete the application, you will be taken to a screen (hopefully telling you that you were approved) which will confirm that you have not yet bought the flight. it will redirect you to the payments page. just close the window, and you’re safe.
