You have one username. If you used periods then that is part of your username.

When google receives mail, they will send it to the username who has the equivalent address regardless of periods.

Using this trick can cause you issues when logging in to the sites where you added periods, you need to remember how you typed your username.

not really, I tried opening a new gmail account with a username for example abcdef@gmail.com but it said username unavailable so it gave me other options for a similar one and one option was abc.def@gmail.com   so if the don't recognize periods how would they recommend the username just with a period in the middle?

Thats very odd because those are definitely one and the same... There was probably another variation or number added on or something.

You have one username. If you used periods then that is part of your username.
The periods are part of the username that gets displayed to you, but you can login without the periods, etc. And internally your username is without the periods.

+1 my username has periods and I can log in without it.

Thanks for correcting me.

I have had issues with logging into other sites which use your email address as the username. I add periods to see if they send me spam, (if I get spam to shmuel...b@gmail.com, I know that company A sold my info) and then when I log in, I need to remember how I typed it.

If you are trying to sign up for something that only allows you to use one email address, use this awesome new trick with gmail.
+1
The period  trick and the "+" trick have both been discussed before.  They both work.

Here ya go!

Any way to send the opposite way - Is there a way to send a Gmail email with the added +XX at the end. For example, instead of dansdeals@gmail.com, can I respond as dansdeals+1@gmail.com - I need to verify a credit card for Amazon but it needs to come from the same email address as the account, which has a +1 in it. TIA

Yes, Gmail gives you that option.

Would you mind telling me where to go to do this? I tried last night and couldn't find it. When I responded to Amazon's first email that they sent me, I saw that it just showed my regular Google address and not the +1 one. Thanks!

You have to go into gmail account settings, and add the email address to the list of addresses you can send from. They'll send you a verification email, and then you should be able to choose that address in the From box.

You can also check off to reply from whichever address the email was sent to.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.
