United Airlines - Worst Airline
« on: June 15, 2008, 05:35:54 AM »
I just flew United. Very bad experience.
My flight was at 6:30 am and I got to the airport an hour before.
By the time it was my turn, it was already 6:00 am and they didn't let me on the flight.. Thank G-d there was an 8:30 am flight, so the 2 hours didn't make such a difference.
Then when it was time to check it, I had 2 bags - new rule - $25 for an extra bag.. and then my other bag was overweight - $100. So I paid them an extra $125 for my luggage..
And then when I was passing by security - they took away my toothpaste (not allowed on flights)...

I hear that starting in June you will need to pay $15 for luggage...

which airline doesn't charge for overweight, and the toothpaste has nothing to do with the airline it's TSA rules.

A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines.  United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar during a flight.  Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar.  During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for youtube        exposing their lack of cooperation.  The Manager responded : "Good luck with that one, pal".
So he posted a retaliatory video on youtube.  The video has since received over 5.5 million hits.  United Airlines contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was: "Good luck with that one, pal".
Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has lead to a sharp increase in orders.

Here's the video ..

I Flew Spirit Air last week, and they always make you pay for every little extra luxury. How ever at the check in counter, because it was a very full flight, they offered to check my carry on bag for free right then and there, they said at the gate it would have been checked anyways. So I have not tried this yet, but next time I am on any airline, and the flight it full or oversold, it may work to tell them "hey this is gonna end up being checked by the gate, so why not just check it here for me now" they can even put the tag that shows checked by gate on it then and there, so its not in the system and their supervisors would not ask why they did not charge...
just something to give it a try...If this works for anyone, let me know!!!

I flew several times United, and didn't encounter problems.

i know that when flying American carriers i need to expect less.

Some are bad, some are worse.

US Airways was the worst so far (Flying First).

Again on United, it was okay for me. I used transatlantic and connecting flights within the US.

It just depends on whether it is over 3 ounces.

In this Yahoo article they nailed United as number 5 on the list of the worst and most disliked companies nationwide, comparing all companies (not just airlines) across the board!!

Recently I flew united, I had 2 bags one for me and one for my wife. I went to check in and one weighed 64 and the other 37, the lady told me don't bother with moving them around because one will still be overweight by 1 pound. Meaning I'll still need to pay the fee. In general they were nasty, Is there any possibility I could get the fee removed?

No. Why didn't you rearrange and take out 1 pound?
And how did you find this thread?
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

I don't understand the story,
You could have told her that you will repack, and take extra pound on carry-on, or get rid of it.
