The real question is how do we know that? If someone tried it. Let us know how it was.
how do you know that? I would say you do have to be there if united clearly told you so.
united also told me theres a united office in philly amtrak st. no such thing. i ended up taking the train but it doesnt look like united had a clue

If you've ever taken an Amtrak you'd know nobody keeps track of who board and who doesn't.

Hence
You don't have to board the train.

Opinions vary if you have to print the ticket at an Amtrak Kiosk, but u can do it an Newark airport for sure.

Train-flight trick?
« Reply #28 on: August 05, 2013, 02:10:37 PM »
Has anyone heard of this-
Booking a flight from PHL that departs from EWR not PHL just they give you a train ticket from philly to ewr.  It is supposedly much cheaper.
Does anyone know how to find this?

Any recent experience with this (if you need to take the train)?
This drops prices on a lot of cities:
Phoenix              reg 322 thru zfv 263
Los Angeles       reg 358 thru zfv 281
Dallas                reg 340 thru zfv 181
Miami                   reg 310 thru zfv 245
and more

Are you skipped both ZFV segments without a problem? IE: ZFV-EWR-SAN-EWR-ZFV
Did you checkin for them online?

Our ticket was from ZFV to NEWARK and from NEWARK to TLV.  We called united before and they told us they are sending 1 day prior the info to Amtrak so we went to penn station 1 night before and they told us they have no info about us, from there we called united and the rep on the phone apologized but from the words we understood they have no clue who actually takes the train so the next day we without a problem checked it at Newark.
Short and to the point.

I read the whole thread just wanted to get a yes or no answer, as I so conflicting reports on different forums.
