Right, that's what I meant. It's a regular auth, but it never posts because the company never actually processes the charge.
I believe that technically they are exactly the same thing.

Right, but one will ultimately get charged, the other one won't.

Exactly. The way I was once explained this by a bank is that the processor has a certain amount of time (about two weeks)  to follow up on a hold or else it will expire. (I had once that the hold expired but eventually the charge came through anyway.)

It's probably more than two weeks, at least for certain merchants e.g. car rental companies.

I do not recommend mint it does not work well with chase when it needs verification for access try Pageonce. On the second question, I put everything together.

I just tried Manilla, and it does not show transactions. It only show the total balance of each account, not very impressed. The one cool thing they have is that they'll retrieve you statement every month and save it for you .

Mint and Manilla are two very different services.

Mint is basically quicken.

Manilla is a bill reminder/tracker/payment site.

I use quicken 2009 I got it a couple of years ago for 30 Dollars on Amazon. I love it, I also have a mint.com account and I like quicken much more, it allows you to do more. Specifically I found annoying on Mint that when you pay a card from a checking account it was very hard to explain that it was a transfer, in quicken it is very simple. Only downside with quicken is that it does not know when your bill is due (at least not in my version) but you can tell it what day of the month it usually falls on and how many days in advance to remind you.
BTW billpay is an added service to quicken, which you have to pay for separately (again, at least in my version).
Edit: I have Quicken Home and Business which allows you to do more (I don't remember the differences) and it usually costs over 50 but I found it for 30.
Does Quicken have anything online based like mint.com? (old post, i know).

Quicken is made by Intuit, which bought Mint.com. There used to be a Quicken Online, but AFAIK it was folded into Mint.com

Anyone use Mint.com?
« Reply #59 on: February 15, 2012, 01:36:40 PM »
Do you folks use Mint.com (or similar)?

I'm curious - why do you use it? To keep tabs on budgeting, fraud alerts, just for kicks, etc?
