I used to write check ID bit no one did so I no longer sign

How would they know if it was your signature? They have nothing to compare it to.

ETA: For everyone that does not sign their CC you might to flip it over and see what it says under the signature space.  :P

I sometimes write "ID REQUIRED", mima nafshach, if it gets stolen, they can not sign it or copy my signature. I think I got this from an article I read somewhere years ago or from a CC company.

HT - Smurf  :)

I cant remember the last time i signed my own name on a CC receipt.

Its usually a straight line across or a zigzag. If i am waiting for the product (take-out food), ill usually draw a picture of a tree, the sun, and some stick figures.

Once they told me they couldn't accept my card because it wasnt signed. I told them i would sign it now...which i did. Then they told me that the signature i signed on the receipt (a minute earlier) didn't match the signature i signed on the CC (20 seconds earlier) ::) Geniuses!

In New Zealand every store checked to see my credit card signature without fail. Then they match it up with how I sign the receipt. Even a license is not good enough only signatures. Otherwise I never sign
Very often they're just going through the motions but not actually looking at it.

More than once I've used somebody else's CC, they asked for ID, I gave them my ID, they compared the two and accepted it --even though it was a completely different name.
I've seen a costco card accepted where the (bearded) guy using it looked nothing at all like the woman in the picture. (the cashier looked at the card, then looked at the guy as if comparing them and then checked us out.)

In my younger days one time I drew a smiley face on the electronic pad, I only realized that it was showing up in big on the cashiers screen when I heard her rolling.

My local office even has a sign up about only accepting credit cards that are signed.

It's probably part of the union contract that they need to ask for ID :)

If you are ever in Crown Heights go check out the Post Office on St. Johns... you will fully understand why Union workers pose a massive problem to our economy.

Went there once... was was a harrowing experience... not for the faint hearted :'(.
