I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

How long did you have the card?
What was your spend like?

had the card for 1 year and since January I spent about 15k towards the 25k. They gave me the whole benefits of the card speech, like free bags etc, so I told that since I opened the card my travel patterns have changed. I said that I have multiple cards and I need to consolidate. They offered my either $100 credit or 10k points.

I called up in January even though my AF posts in june for my PRG. I think they gave me something like 17.5k points. I called in july now for my SPG card whose AF just posted and they said they have nothing to offer me. Is this a very strict rule that they only offer retention for one cc per year?

What was your spend and what did you tell them regarding the PRG?

Thanks!

For PRG I spent 30k+ that year. For SPG probably like 20K+ But that is between all people on the accounts. I talked to them about closing the PRG because I did not do so much traveling.

On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd say chances are somewhere between 1 to 10.

A rep told me on my wife's BA card that within 2 weeks I will get the second set of 50K BA points ( I signed up for the 50K year one and 50K year 2 promo). I tried getting the annual fee removed and they were not very helpful. Thinking of cancelling the card within 60 days of the annual fee once the points post. Has anyone tried that? I wouldn't want the points to be clawed back of course.

There's no bank that I know of which will claw back miles/points/free nights from an external loyalty program for canceling a card and not paying the annual fee.

That's what I was hoping to hear. In that case I have no reason to pay the annual fee, soon as the anniversary 50k posts ill transfer the credit line and close the card. Thanks.

I only tried once and they didn't. I would have tried harder but truthfully there is no reason to keep the card open. I thought I would need it for the 2nd 50K but it seems that once they post I am fine.

Got my IP AF waived now. I don't know if this is the norm, but our biz account is huge with Chase.
