I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

PRG card - was offered 20k MR points and an additional 7500 points after spending $3k in 3 months. might just cancel after the 20k hit.
Just spend the 3K on VRs or something.

I opened a second Starwood Business card about 7 years after the first one. When I did not receive the 25k signing bonus i called to complain and they said there is nothing they can do, once you got the award  you can't get it again.

I called up a manager and he said the same thing, then about a second later he's like "i see you have been using the card a lot, as a good will gesture I'll give you the 25k"!!

Once I referred a friend who used a dans deals link and when I called they gave me 3k goodwill points. I hear they've gotten stingier lately though

Starwood card --I too last week tried to get GW to offset fee -- I spent about  10-12k -- am a amex card holder 42 years -- have other amex cards open ----- was told will get $100 credit ( sounds real good ) looked at my account and saw two $100 debits -- called amex--- after holding on 20 minutes-- csr comes back and tells me -- they made an error in "giving me the $100 credit (that never showed on my account)  -- csr looks and tells I am right and can not find the credit , comes back 10 minutes later and explains -- supervisor made an error -- instead of a credit they put a debit and when someone so the note that i should not get the $100 credit they put through a second debit --- so now had $ 200 in debits on account --- i get to speak to a supervisor to complain , ask for GW for the error and the 45 minutes spent on phone because of AMEX error, tells me they will reverse the two debits and no GW , said I "MAY" have to cancel card -- her reply -- do you want me to cancel it now!! -- they have gone from top in service to now the bottom -- best to just open card get everything you can - dump card ASAP  AND ONLY KEEP  ONE NO FEE CARD

1,000 SPG points for 2 cards

Amex is cracking down on  retention for SPG IME. I spent well over 30k on my card and they said we will give you a one time 3k, and we don't want you calling us next year!

Yeah, that's what they offered me for 2 cards as well. Only 1k. Thinking probably better off closing and staying the 12 months.

Is this something specifically with the SPG, or can we expect the other amex cards to be this stingy as well?

Just spend the 3K on VRs or something.

a.  I don't live in a state with CVS.
b.  don't want to trigger a FR.

Hi :)

1. It's true.
2. Use the SBS credits to offset the fee.
