I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

SPG personal - nothing. First time I asked, they offered 1K, then I asked 3 more times and nothing. I switched the account to a Blue cash

My Amex Platinum Business card came up for the annual fee and I was offered 25k Amex Points to keep it open.  I passed and closed it out.  Wasn't worth the 450 annual fee and I want to start the 1 year clock running.

I thought of that but didn't want to do that.  Not sure if they track that sort of behavior.  I want to go for the Gold 50k offer in 12 months.

If you check the business gold application which offers 50k points, it clearly says that the wait time is 1 year.  I am not sure what you are referring to.

You can always tell them that you are thinking of closing it and see what they give you

500 points on my second SPG.
At least it'll post in a few days, so I can still cancel b/f the 60 day deadline.

Last year I got some great retention offers on my Citi AA cards. This year after calling 3 times the best I got was 3000 for $500 spending. Is anyone getting anything better?

I had piddly spending on my SPG personal. Was offered 1K SPG to retain, or transfer to Blue (earning Mem Rewards) retaining credit line/terms with no credit check - accepted the latter.

Just to check... having the Blue means I could cancel my other MR cards (Platinum, BRG) and keep my MR points, correct? Also, this doesn't prevent me from qualifying for sign-on bonuses on new BRG/Platinum, correct? It's not included in the TOS as one of those you can't have held in 12-mo...
