Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I had piddly spending on my SPG personal. Was offered 1K SPG to retain, or transfer to Blue (earning Mem Rewards) retaining credit line/terms with no credit check - accepted the latter.

Just to check... having the Blue means I could cancel my other MR cards (Platinum, BRG) and keep my MR points, correct? Also, this doesn't prevent me from qualifying for sign-on bonuses on new BRG/Platinum, correct? It's not included in the TOS as one of those you can't have held in 12-mo...

Yes will protect your MR points but you cant transfer till you have a MR earning card again

Also this should not make you ineligble for other cards

I received the same offer, so I took the 1k SPG points and then downgraded.

Ya, first she offered me a balance transfer..they send me that in the mail around twice a month
Very stingy. I've been a cardholder for 25 yrs and used to use the card frequently. Now I don't use it period. I just called and told them that and all they offered was bonus points for travel purchases. I even spoke to a manager and told him I'm thinking of closing the account. Said he's sorry but he can't do anything.

I tried again through secure message  got same message. Requested that my issue be elevated. They said they couldn't help via sm and I have to call. So I called again, asked for a supervisor right away. She gave me 2500 'goodwill' ty points, but couldn't make any other bonus offers. Better than nothing

I went as high as corporate offices IIRC in NYC . Got nothing . Took matters into my own hands since then , and have gotten +200K

Had they given me 50 K , I wouldn't be posting here .  :)

BA card up for renewal.  had for a year...maybe spent 4k total on it.   It was dormant for a while and started spending in the last few months.   Was offered nothing, after a few HUCAs I got a offer for 9k Avios for spending $1500 in 3 months.  Also got 5k earlier in the year for threatening to cancel.  Not bad.

Chase Ink Bonus Points
« Reply #1816 on: November 12, 2013, 06:48:21 PM »
Heres the run down.

I signed up for Two chase ink cards about a year ago. They are coming due for a fee sometime soon
I called them up asking if they can waive the fee.
They said no....but they do have an offer that if I spend 5k in the next three months I will receive an extra 10,000 bonus points on top of my spending.

They added it to both cards.
I will be buying vanilla reload cards tomorrow....Lookout CVS

Anyone with a Chase Ink can call up and ask for the special bonus

Post if you have success....and if you don't HUCA....then post when you successfully get the bonus  :)

Any recent success on Chase BA or Southwest? On BA I probably put on close to 25k. (close to 20k in VR's ;D)
Also if I do end up closing them, it it better to have it closed before Jan? Can it make it easier if I would like to reapply sometime?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

No offer for retention on Citi AA Amex, downgraded to Citi Bronze MC for prorated AF (posted 2 mo ago).

Does this reset the clock on Citi AA cards?
