Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

SPG Consumer was offered 3k, hoping to get 5k.

Seith: How may I be of assistance today?
you: I really love using Amex but the Annual fee is kind of a bite.
Seith: I understand your concern.
Seith: May I issue 3000 points?
Seith: I am sure, you will agree that this card provides excellent benefits.
you: It's a great card and I want to continue enjoying it. Can you do 5k?
Seith: I will forward a request for 5000 points to my supervisor.
you: :-)
Seith: If approved, the points will be transferred to your Starwoods accounts within next 3 - 5 business days.
Seith: (smile)

Any recent success on Chase BA or Southwest? On BA I probably put on close to 25k. (close to 20k in VR's ;D)
Also if I do end up closing them, it it better to have it closed before Jan? Can it make it easier if I would like to reapply sometime?
A few posts up someone reported success...
BA card up for renewal.  had for a year...maybe spent 4k total on it.   It was dormant for a while and started spending in the last few months.   Was offered nothing, after a few HUCAs I got a offer for 9k Avios for spending $1500 in 3 months.  Also got 5k earlier in the year for threatening to cancel.  Not bad.

Very little.  But I learned from past experience with Barclays, to always spend a little bit on that card, that dog really needs to be thrown a bone very often.

Was chatting about a few things with Amex chat. When I got to the third thing I was playing it that I'm really bothering you with too many things, now I gotta leave good feedback.
I asked about expediting 2k Starwood spending points before the statement closed because I'm traveling. Said that they can't because it's not billed yet. So, I asked if they can give it as a courtesy now and not give it to me on the statement.
She said that she's sending to the supervisor to give me 2k points and they will still give me the points on my statement.
A couple hours later, I got the points.  :D

You sure the fee wasn't $95?. I also got $95 credits just spending the threshold.

Amex chat is wonderful. I have already received 2k SPG bonus points twice in the past month with an excuse. Not retention. I am so much better at being very friendly to a rep in a chat than on a conversation on the phone. I can take my time and do other things in the meantime too.
Now, I should be at my desired 40,000 SPG points on the 30k offer.

Just called Chase about the AF on my United card- I have spent some good money there over the past 6 years (probably about 75K) and they offered me nothing.
