I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

if you downgrade to a fee-free credit card, the card number remains the same. wouldn't the warranty also carry over?

Which fee-free cards have the (same?) warranty extension benefit?

Just called to cancel my Amex Plat today.

Asked the rep Gina if there was any way they could sweeten the deal for me with a retention offer (15-25K as posted on the other thread) and got ugly- "If 100,000 pts, which is worth $1000 isn't enough to make you want this card, then I'm not inclined to give you anything else!". Cancelled it np though.

Question: if I still have a PR gold with them, and I had already paid my full balance (including the $450 fee), how do they usually go about refunding the fee? Statement credit on the PR gold? Or refund to my attached checking acct?

The credit posts to your account, then you can either request a check or have it posted to your PR Gold account. It's best to request a check, otherwise you might lose out on 450 MR points from PR Gold spend that you'll lose because of the $450 credit that posts.

I've seen this mentioned a number of times, and I'm always surprised by it.  I would assume the credit would be treated the same as a payment (which does not reduce the points earned for purchasing) and not as a returned item (which nets against your purchases and reduces your point earnings).

My name is yisrael I meant to write thanks dan and then sign my name.  Of course 45 is good for an extended warranty but still I always try to maximize what I can get.  So I would retain my warranty regardless?  If I send to many messages could that cause an FR? Thanks Yisrael

Downgraded from Surpass?  I have both right now, and wonder if I can get another 20k by telling them I'd prefer to have two of the same regular HHonors Amexes.

I just got a measly 6k MR on my Amex plat, but at least it posted immediately (second time I called. First time I was promised 6k in 1-2 weeks, but it never posted).

How long was this card left opened?
