I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Special thanks to AJK for pointing me to this thread.

I got a Citi AA card in August. Immediately used amazon payments for the $750. Miles soon posted.
I just called retention and said I wasn't sure the card was for me.

Rep: Why?
Me: Well, it has an annual fee and it's a card that I'm not really using.
Rep: Would you like an $85 statement credit? I can also give you 750 bonus miles if you make $750 in purchases, and I can apply that to each of your next 12 statements.
Me: Yes!

I just got a Citi AA $85 annual fee waived, and the spend $750 get 750 bonus placed on the card for 16 (!) months.

I also got an offer for 1.2 miles per dollar spent (an extra .2) until the end of January 2012. So until the end of January I get 2.2 AA miles for each dollar spent if I spend exactly $750. I'm actually considering it over SPG/Sapphire Preferred.

That's an extra 750 points for $750 for each of the next 16 months?

Yup, that's what he offered me. I asked him to repeat it twice to confirm :P

Ontop of that I get 1.2 cpm (instead of 1cpm) for any other spending (I think that's limited by a 100k/yr cap).

Hmmmm.... I wonder if I call back, perhaps I can land that too. Just not sure how to ask for it.

In this case, I shamelessly asked. When I do that I try to be vague, so I have a change of getting an even better offer (in this case 16 months instead of 12). If I get a lesser offer, I get more specific ("my friend told me...).

Congrats. Well, at least I now have a data point up my sleeve, and a goal to reach.

If people aim high, they might actually get somewhere.

To quote Rabbi Kotler: If you aim for the street, you may hit the porch. If you aim for the porch, you won't even make it out of the house.

Really?  :o

OK, FINE. Translation: Aim for "100", and you may get "50." Aim for "50," and you may not even get that.

Moral: Aim high.

I understood what you were saying, but in the רישא, how is street (100) higher than porch (50)? Or did you inadvertently transpose the two?

when calling for a SPG retention bonus which department do you call? Regular CS or the cancellation line. I know the cancellation department is empowered to try to "save"
cardmembers I'm just wondering if regular CS can offer more points?

Anybody get good bonus recently for Chase Continental?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I just called Chase. All they offered was 5000 co points or 10000 if I spend $2000. Pretty weak if you ask me! Has anyone found a difference from one rep to another?

Doesn't sound weak to me.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
