Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

keep trying. It took me 3 times to get 3,000 out of them
Okay, thanks. Do you think it'll hurt my chances if I already agreed to the 1000 points ?

American Express Business Platinum, Day 59 on year 2 with very little use (except nice charges from a Las Vegas trip last week), called to cancel. Got $200 statement credit to keep it open  8)

Already did PGGM in April 2014, got $100 credit for misc AA charges (AA Gift Card), GC, PP, will do PGGM again early 2015, and SBS '14 of course... AmEx just wants to pay me apparently!

ETA: I also talked to a Fine Hotel rep trying to get $100 credit for food/bev at Bellagio. She said the credit wasn't available because I made the reservation through mLife, but asked a supervisor and they offered 5K MR as a nod.  ;D

Rep
IME chat is way better than phone reps plus I think they don't keep notes from online chats as supposed to phone calls

After the rep offered me 1000 spg I tried chat & was offered a "one time offer" of 2000 points. He never mentioned that I had already spoken to someone.

I have chase sapphire and chase marriott cards first anniversary coming up in a few weeks.  These are my first cards where I have reached the one year mark.  I just started following d.d. about a year ago.
What types of renetion bonuses can I ask for for each of the cards.  I have used the sapphire fairly heavily but have used the marriott a total of about 1500 over the year.  Should I call up separately for each card or should I discuss  both cards with a single phone call.  I have looked through the previos discussions but can use some updated advice.
Thank you

I don't have any experience with retention for this card but fyi the sapphire can be downgraded to a no AF card & the Marriott also has anniversary night which is (arguably) worth the Af.

I believe the down graded card has foreign transaction fees which I don't want.
Is it better to just close the card but first transfer my credit to another card.
Should I transfer all of my ur pints out first

Always transfer the credit over. Do you have a different UR points card that you could transfer the points to ? You don't wanna lose UR points.
