I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I got 4 offers now for advantage exec.

1. Spend $5K in the next 3 months get 15K miles.
2. Spend $1.5K every month for the next 7 months and get $50 statement credit every month (total $350)
3. Spend $1.5K every month for 3 months and get $100 and 5K miles.
4. Every month in the next 16 months that I spend $1K, I get 1K bonus points.

I was billed on the 23rd so I need to decide today if I want to pay or cancel.

I can take 1 of the offers and then cancel within 37 days from the 23rd but I won't be getting any of the bonus points by then. (Unless I take option 1 and spend it all before this statement closes, maybe they'll credit the points before 37 days. Not very easy to spend that much in a manner that it will post by the 23rd.)
I got the same offers, is it really true that they can only give you offers that are "on your account" ?

Long story short, I called to take number 2 but since it goes per billing cycle and I was 3 says away (it was my due date for AF) and offer wouldn't pay till 24 hours. I decided to pay AF (I have till 37 days from when  three AF posts, about 10 days at this point, to close card and get fill refund) and call back after statement closes and apply the offer.
The end of last week was busy so I called early today and the rep told me that they weren't supposed to offer that to me, he sees the offer there but it won't let him put it on my account.... I asked to speak to a manager who told me the same.

Short story: Note I have to decide between 1,3 and 4 or close the account. Which would you suggest?

Just downgrade the card, none of the offers pay off $450

Seems like they decided to offer somewhat better retention offers for the executive card, probably since everyone was closing them, but those offers still don't justify paying $450.

Anyone have any luck w/ the everyday preferred card? Or should I just downgrade to non-preffered?
