They always say that. Try a bit more (I got it waived once for me and once for DW in the past) and if it doesn't work just downgrade to Freedom if >1 year or close if you have INK.

my recent experience with csp was nada after several huca. i downgraded to freedom. working on my spg now but not getting any offfers either...

Somewhere in this thread, I believe somebody mentions the idea of waiting 2 weeks. Perhaps new offers will open up.

From when they rejected your retention offer request. I don't know what their formula is (e.g. how long to wait), but the retention offer are constantly changing. Or, if you HUCA enough, you may get lucky.

Miles and More card, barely used, the rep tells me he isnt even able to forward to retention bc he doesnt have that option for this account

Anybody have a clue how Chase or Citi determines who gets offers and who doesn't? My parents, my wife, and I all applied for the Ink Plus a little over a year ago. When I called for my dad, he got no offer. I HUCA'd like 4 times. I spoke for my mom 5 times. Nothing. I spoke for my wife, nothing. When I called for myself, I got the $95 credit the first time I spoke with someone. Didn't even have to speak to a retention specialist. My wife and I have a joint checking account. The only thing I can think of is that I have a slightly longer history with Chase than they do, and more credit cards.

What does one say when calling retention (I'm calling amex)? Do you tell them you want to close the card bc of annual fee and ask what they can offer to keep the card open?

You could just ask for an offer but sometimes the offers "magically" appear when you suggest that you wanna close it.
