I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Citi Prestige, open for 8 months. Offered me 10,000 extra TYP if I spend $3k within 6 months. Should I call back for a better offer?

Nice. Lots of spend? I'm assuming you payed the first years AF?

Yes, paid the AF but got the $200 airline credit twice and used the $100 global entry credit.

About $55K spend.  I'm going to close the card now.

Sure
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

It's that only for a downgraded CSP?
Something doesn't sound right.

Have you tried in the first year? It's illegal for cc companies to raise fees in the first year, so they can't upgrade freedom to csp until year 2.

I don't have any information from experience but from my limited understanding of the credit card world, just because they've approved you for a lower card, doesn't mean that they'll give you a higher card (unless CSP is considered at the same level as Freedom).

I am sorry for the confusion. i downgraded from CSP to the regular saffire and from there i can upgrade any time by just paying the fee.

That makes more sense.  Although it's an interesting data point that you can upgrade from a lower (CS) card to a higher (CSP) card.

I know a few people who have upgraded from a Freedom to a CSP.
