I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I tried with many reps and supervisors with my chase united card, had no luck at all, just curios has anyone in the past gotten any AF waived or credited?
(aside for one rep who marked in my account that i will try my best to see what I can do for you, and told me to sm chase for the United as it's a 3rd party, meaning it's united who's a partner with them in this card, so sm would be the best way and mention your call with me in the sm, now waiting for the reply to my sm I sent friday, will report back here hopefully with some good news!

I never had any luck with united cards, don't see any point keeping the card open, besides the fact that I don't want my current points to expire. So I just downgraded to a $0 AF and I swipe every year to get a point into my account.

That's what I should do! But I have a crazy thing in my head that I'm going to use it for booking tickets and free baggage! even though till now I never used it.

Is there really a big difference if I book without my united explorer on the website?  Also you earn nothing much compared to a free card (chase unlimited).
I think I might take you idea.(now I will have to fight to get back my $95 af which I paid today since I was going to have to pay interest otherwise.)

There are other ways to get a free bag operated on united

How long ago was your AF due ? I'm sure if you SM they can  reimburse you

I just finished my 30 days or whatever amount before being charged interest.
I don't use my card that much but here and there will use it(definitely don't use it for points).

I didn't want to be charged late payments on the annual fee which was due last night, so just paid it for now even though I am waiting for an sm back to me about the annual fee!
Have a feeling now that I paid it they will tell me I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do, or maybe I will get lucky and get some type of statement credit!
And again it's a waste of $95 since I don't use the card to much! Will try on getting the af back and down grading the fee free card (rewards card).
Thanks for the push! ;)

Any clue if the free version gives the same car rental insurance as the one with the AF ?

Just tried to get the AF waived on my Ink Business Plus card and was told the same thing... Downgrade to Ink Cash... Is that such a terrible option.. in the worst case scenario? What am i losing? don't use this card much anyway...
Just remember that it's irreplaceable. IINM there are no cards which earn 5ppd with Chase which one can still apply for. CMIIW.

Barclaycard aviator red was offered annual fee waived and a CLI easily

+1

If you speak to a supervisor you can get them to check rententions offer which may be a soft CLI request.

They will ask you what your AI is and whatever the system gives you, it gives you.

On a regular Barclays CLI request, they will ask you the amount you would like to request. If they ask you for a requested specific amount, it will be a HP.

You got to huca and huca (try at night and morning to get 2 different sets of reps). Good luck!

Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

If I have 60k UR pending on my Ink Plus, will downgrading to Ink Cash affect the pending points in any way?
Are points on Ink Cash card less valuable or versatile than Ink Plus?

LOL, I really don't have much time to HUCA, it's just very discouraging every time you're turned down... My last phone call with BGR:
"Hi, I'd like to discuss closing down my card..."
"Sure! I can make this process quick and easy for you, and it's great that you called now (right before midnight) so you won't have to pay the AF .." As if he knew what i was trying to do...
"Er, um, don't i have till the 19th?"
"yes, you do"
Conversation went on for a few more minutes, he suggested I close down this card and open the Simply Cash card... Yeah... sure!
"So do you want to proceed with closing down the account?"
"I'm sorry, my baby just woke up... I'll call back another time.."

They're not transferable from ink cash.
