Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Curios to know did you change your sob story around when you called for the 7th time? Or the same sob story and you got a rep. Who had pity on you?
Also they transferred you to which department? (I doubt it was a Reg. CS? ) retention Dept. Or MR dept.?
Don't try to be someone else , be who you are because everyone else is taken.

10K SPG Points or $100 Credit for keeping card open.

Minimal spend on the card throughout the year

I'm sure you can figure out which offer I took.  ;D

Curios to know if this is your first year of the card, meaning finishing the 1st year of the membership?

i had some issues with spg cs/retention too... i was told i got an offer last year so i waited another month or two so it was now prob 14 months since last offer... bec i have other cards, i was prepared for the pro rated and then i got an offer. $25 statement credit plus a few thousand spg points. i dont remember exactly as it was a couple months ago but it seems from this thread that its based on account activity and relationship with amex. i dont think there is something set in stone. i also say that because of lack of offer on my delta plat this year. so i closed that. wasnt going to pay $195 and barely use card. worst case scenario, you can always apply again and even if you wont get sign up bonus, the  AF should be waived for first year of  card membership which in this case would be when you open the new account
