I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Trying to figure out why you quoted my post, and starting off your post “additionally”
Did you read my whole post, before arguing nonsense? I did not start off "additionally"
I'll tell you later

I have an Amex business platinum that I wanted to downgrade to a business gold. I was offered 30,000 points on the spot as well as an additional 50,000 points after spending $40,000.

I took the offer on all three of my platinum cards.

Was there a time frame for the spend? How much do you typically spend on your card(s)? First year?

After my friend and I both were offered 20k retention (as I mentioned above) another friend tried for the same offer, but came up empty. Both of us who were offered it, put $100k+ on our cards, while the friend who was denied it, put minimal spend on it. Not sure if that's just a coincidence, but something to keep in mind.

A couple of days ago I was charged the annual fee for an amex card. Has anyone received a retention bonus after they've been charged the annual fee
