I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

How many days do I have to downgrade (if I can't get retention bonus) for Amex in order to get full refund of the Annual Fee?

so I made my retention call to Amex, I went trough all cards in my wallet, got some nice stuff...
Then it was finally time for the BLUE FB, and I ask: is anything available towards the annual fee? agent answers: well if your talking about the blue card it has no annual fee... LOL  ::)

 isn't $350 better then $225 ?
Depends how much time and effort it takes you to spend $5000

Edit: now I see his post. It'll be a pain to make sure you do $1500 each month on the card. I understand his reasoning.

Good one :)Did you get the offers from a rep, or from retention? With reps I tried but did not get anything for 7 cards.

Reps and retention department? I have not gotten any last year too if I remember correctly. A friend got offers on 4 out of his 6 cards, no idea on what basis they issue the offers.

called 18663764552 about AF, first they started with all the benefits the card has, like Uber, airline fee etc, than I asked if they can offer me something if I keep it open, I got this offer.
I paid the AF 2 weeks ago

AA Citi AAdvantage Executive.
Shpiel: Just got my statement with my annual membership fee posted. Am re-evaluating all my credit card costs and usage and, given that I have several cards from other companies, am considering costs and benefits of keeping this card open. Want to know if there are any offers available to me on this account?
First agent looked, said no, asked if I'm considering closing the account, said yes, she said need to transfer you to retention specialist.  Maria then asked me the same, and I told her I had gotten offers to motivate my retnention in the past and would like to know if offers exist at present.
She read the first one: 7 months, spend $1,500 per month, get $50 statement credit per month.
I asked if there are any other offers, and she said there are no other offers related to the annual fee. "Would you like to me see if there are any other offers available to you?"  I said no, I would rather not know if there is any way to save money.  (j/k).
She then read me the second offer:
"It's not an offer specific to the annual fee." Spend $5,000 in 3 months and get 15,000 AA miles.
I asked if the two offers are mutually exclusive, or if I could have them both. (Greedy much?)
She said only one or the other, so I took the latter. :)
Cheshbon:
First offer: Spend $10,500 over 7 months, get back $350.
Second offer: Spend $5,000 over 3 months, get back 15,000 AA, which to me are worth at least $225, maybe more.

Did you do considerable spend on that card during the year?

I have a few Citi AA cards that I only used for bonus a year ago.
They're saying it doesn't allow them to transfer me to retention..

Do AMEX retention offers go away? I called & was offered 20k points or $75 for 2k spend but I have lots of other spend I have to do now so I figured I’ll just wait to accept. Will it go away?

Which card? Was offered by retention and did you say you'll close the card? Or by a front end rep? Thanks
