I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

So you cancelled because you didn't want to spend $1k, but you're fine spending $2k? Why didn't you just take the offer and keep it open? It's worth it for the free night it comes with.

Don't think I will be able to use the free night certificate this year and have become very unhappy with Bonvoy. I'm considering keeping the personal so I don't lose that credit line, the biz wouldn't affect my personal credit line...

On second thought, I could probably sell the free night certificate. Can I still call AMEX and reverse the cancellation?

Do you have another MR card? Just close it, and worst case scenario, they claw it back. Just make sure you leave 20k in the account until you're in the clear.

I have another MR card,  so you are saying pay the fee, do the spend and then downgrade and get a prorata refund and worst is they clawback the 20 k, -  would they clawback more than 20?

I can say for certain, but I've never heard of them clawing back more than the bonus amount.

I just realized now that I paid the AF on both of my SPG cards (personal and business) without trying for a retention offer. Personal AF posted March 8 and business April 12, any chance on getting a retention for either?

Has Citi gotten strict with Retention offers?

Used to call in every few months and get promo offers.

Must be 18 months or so now and not getting spending bonus offers or anything.

Anyone else notice this?

I don’t think HUCA same day,  but maybe after some amount of time?  I just called and was told by a rep that they are computer generated... but maybe over time, offers get added?

SPG Biz: 5k points up front and then 15k for spending $1K, decided to cancel
SPG Personal: 20k points for spending $2K in 3 months, I'm thinking it may be worth taking that offer?

I got 5k upfront and 10k for $1000 spend in 90 days.
