Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

YMMV but i mentioned that i am scaling up and i will be using the card a lot more which based on my track record with the card was believable. They also go through whether the card is right for you... They trap you... if you lean towards no they say the card is not for you switch cards... If you lean towards yes, they go on about the value u get from the card.... You have to squeeze in between...

I just got off the phone with them about my Arrival card and after telling them that I want my annual fee waived or I just don't think this card is worth it for me, and after 1 HUCA they told me that all they can do for me is downgrade my card to a free one (still world mastercard but not "elite") and give me 1000 points.  It seemed like the most I could get out of them so I took it.

I tried threatening to close my BRG today, and the agent was like "just make sure to cash out your rewards before you close"....
I mentioned I would consider downgrading to the green card if she gives me a welcome bonus but she declined  :'( . I guess I'll have to HUCA but don't have the patience  >:(

Threatening never helps, unless your spending on the card is massive! Be very diplomatic and gentle.

I just called chase and spoke to two different initial reps and both told me there was no rentention department and they could take care of it.  I told them that i knew there was a department but they said they handled it.  I was calling about the chase united explorer card.  I politely rung up both times.  Am i calling the wrong number.  Which number should i use and how do i get past this point.  I even told them that i spoke to retention in the past so i know there is a retention department.

I am not understanding the problem. If they say they can take care of it as well, why not let them handle it and see what they offer?

Finally got a supervisor in retention today to do it. She claims the 40k signup may be clawed back as it's contingent on the fee being paid and the crediting of it will negate the payment. Miles already transferred to my FF account so I'm not so worried about it.

Has the AF been credited back to your account?
Do you still have your USAirways miles?

I just closed 3 Citi AA cards because They would not wave the fee.
I'm on the phone now for my Amex AA.  ::)
I'm hitting a brick wall.  >:(
Each rep says they never heard of waiving an annual fee and there is no chance.  ???
Could it be that I have been blacklisted for retention?  :o
Or do they see I have not used the card (other than SBS) in 2 yrs?  :-[
The retention number we used to use is dead.  :(
I got retentions more than 10 times before.
