Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Called Citi executive card with no intention of cancelling. Was hoping for a double mileage offer for 6 mos. or something of the like.

If you got a double miles offer would you use the card for the next six months? Now that AA transfers are out, what are Diner's best transfer partners?

I just got billed my first annual fee for the Chase CO I called and the rep said he can't waive the fee. but he offered me 5k miles. I accepted. Should I go ahead and cancel anyways once the miles post? Will the annual fee be refunded?

Today I had them add a $85 statement credit to my and wife's card. They wouldn't call it a waive of the annual fee, just a statement credit ;).

just closed a chase CO one pass plus.
No retention just a 5 minute conversation about how the card pays for itself......

Keeping fingers crossed that I can churn before the card goes away...
gonna be a tight window...

I called Amex about my SPG card today after mailing in my statement and paying the $65 annual fee yesterday.  I told them I have several cards open with annual fees and was hoping they could wave or reduce it for me.  I knew the answer would be no but I wanted to make them say it before asking for points, as I figured it would only help me get empathy from the CSR.  She said she couldn't reduce or eliminate the fee due to class action lawsuits filed against Amex for charging the fee to some customers and waiving it for others.  She did however give me 3,000 starpoints as a courtesy and she noted that I use that card a lot.  The whole call was under 5 minutes.

same here just got 3000 points. thanks.

Got $150 credit on the Chase PP card, so that brings it down to $250. I like the card but not that much, trying to get some miles also. Asked for 25k.

called to cancel my amex prg
they said they cant waive the fee but he did offer $100 - $50 now and another $50 after $1000 spending in 60 days.
i guess i will wait till i get that credit, and then cancel

what should i do with my mr points - i only have about 20,000 pts and i kind of liked it as a backup if i needed to transfer points fast. however i do have alot of points on delta already and a nice amt on starwood

so should i just transfer my points or downgrade to a fee free card?

Ah, that's what you meant.

Yes, she almost cancelled me on the spot.

Had to say, essentially, "whoaaa nelly."

Dangled the idea of a retention, she transferred me and viola.
Can I ask how much you spent on the prg annually? I didnt really use the card so much so im assuming that why they dont care to hold on to me

I don't really recall, but it probably was not more than 10k or so.

Hi

Just got billed  my $65 annual fee on my Starwood amex. Have been a customer since 2006, they offered me 1000 points when I called to have fee removed

Should I cancel my card and re apply? ( is there any negative implications if I do with Amex or credit report )

Will I get current bonus offers when I re apply?
How long should I wait to re apply?

Thanks
