Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

My Q wasn't answered dear.

If I understand your question, you were asking if they give you a bonus for not downgrading ("I'm thinking of downgrading, what can you offer me if I keep my Plat"?). My question is why ask that if you can just ask "I'm thinking of cancelling, what can you offer me if I keep my Plat"?

Aha I get it. My question though was how many MR were people recently being offered.

Might depend on which card (Gold/plat), how much you spend, and other factors.

is this true? starwood membership consulting services team (retention dept) say the offers for the retention bonuses are computerized and could only be given if it shows an offer? Or is it the agent and i should call again?

anyone have answers to this question?

I've had a "hit or miss" experience over the years with retention bonuses on my Amex SPG card. Can someone who has had more success with this provide any guidance as to what I should be telling the CSR, in the hope of getting a more positive response.

thanks

Got my annual 3K SPG retention bonus, via SM this time.  Took 2 SMs to get it.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

So what does one generally have to say to the CSR, to be offered a retention bonus?

Just called chase for co card. All they offered was a one hundred dollar statement credit. Since I spent over 25k in the eleven months I had the card I was hoping for a nice amount of miles, so i said forget it leave card open and I will see. Now gotta try again I guess.

You should've asked if they could give you miles instead, maybe they'd offer 5k or 10k.

I asked for miles at first and then she said that there is an offer avail for one hundred dollars which is more than the fee. My whole pitch was that not interested in fee and want miles to offset the fee. Guess will try again now.
