I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Green i spent the least. Barely $1k.

Just called for Personal Plat. and was offered one of three options.

1. $75 immediately plus another $75 after $1500 spend.
2. 5k points immediately plus another 15k after $3000 spend.
3. 10k points immediately.

I took number 2.

(This is the beginning of my second year, first retention bonus on this card.)

Curios to know what you guys mention when asking for a retention bonus?
Mention anything about shutting the card?
Mention how the annual fee is not worth the value of the card?
Or just ask for a retention offer?
Don't try to be someone else , be who you are because everyone else is taken.

Try not to mention it to Amex. With Chase that is the preferred method.

I've literally tried all of those with Amex, and was satisfied with the results.

You asked if you have an offer attached to your account?

Not in those words, but yes. I called and told them I wanted to close the card due to high AF, but was wondering if there was any sort of incentive to keep it open. Another time I referenced a friends offer. With chase, I actually requested they close a card, with no retention intentions, and after reading me all the junk, the rep mentioned that they can credit me the AF.

Don't think this is an option, the Rep will just keep on going how you get your money worth back with all the benefits. Travel credit, PP, etc.
