I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I got 2500 from Chase Sapphire
Really? How many tries? (not that 2,500 would justify the $95 to me...)

for the people that have a freedom card and don't spend on travel and opened the sapphire just for the bonus the 7% yearly dividends realy doesn't do much

Just called AMEX about my STarwood where i will be getting charged next month and she "looked into" getting the fee waived or reduced to the $45 it used to be but came back and said no dice. I tried the thinking about cancelling or downgrading etc and she was very understanding and offering to help me with either option. I asked about a retention bonus and she said no go to that to but the offered to throw me the "max" they can which is 3K points. 3000 X .022 = 66. Win

If this wasn't a retention bonus, what was it? Looking at the SPG for my next card and would like to know how I can reduce the hit on the annual fee. Thanks in advance.

Just called regarding my Chase BA card that just posted my $95 annual fee.  They offered me 5000 avios points which I took for now.  That doesnt seem like quite enough for me to keep the card open and pay the $95 though.  Has anyone had luck getting more for that card or calling a 2nd time and getting them to up the offer? Also, if I wait till the 5000 points post and then cancel the card will they take back the 5000 points?

How much did you spend on your CO OP? I think this is what it comes down to

I recently got 12.5k amex points on my Amex PRG card for retention and now the points are transfered out and I was wondering if there is any reason to keep open the card. I have no points with them now anyways and the annual fee did not yet post.

i recently cancelled my sp card and got a letter that my FREEDOM card has been cancelled. After calling Chase and confirming that they meant the sp card is closed and my freedom card is very much active- they gave me 2500 bonus points-not bad

Use it as leverage for a new card.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Was just charged the $95 on a Sapphire preferred card.

From prior posts it seems Chase wont give any bonus/refund for the sapphire.
(Please correct me if I am wrong)

Any downside to downgrading to a fee-free version?

What if I have a freedom card?
Does that help?

No. Only Ink Bold and SP have that ability.

I wonder if converting to mastercard would help to get them to remove the annual fee for SP?
