Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

Told? By who?

If you saw the approved screen you should be ok, but if you're nervous try calling about app status and give them your SSN.
Thanks,  ;D
I'll try that now

You might get another pull for business, but I think 3bm should work.

Let me try this again:

Is that how you got to 14k posts w/ 10 fancy green stars???  ;)

Actually, editing your posts will make you have less posts, not more. Post padding is just bad netiquette.

You're on the wrong boards if that surprises you.

I disagree, and I hope you're sorely mistaken.

Called about the BA card maybe 7 times at this point and have been rejected every instance, even after speaking to several supervisors.  HOWEVER, today was a bit different in that he offered me 5k points to keep it open.  Not bad considering I can still call in the next 13 days, hopefully by which time the points will have posted, and get the fee refunded.  If at first you don't succeed...

I had a similar experience.  Anyone know if they ever give more if I call again and run through the same thing.  Do they see that I was given 5000 as a retention bonus? I want to keep my card open but the 5000 points just doesnt seem to be enough to do that.

you have nothing to lose by calling in as one rep may be willing to give more than another

called about BA and the CSR said he will submit a request to BA to see if they can give me any Avios points to stay with the card but in his experience they only give that to heavy users of the card (which I am not).

Also called about my wife's CO OPP card (which is now United Explorer?) and was offered $100 credit to keep the card open.

My United card annual fee is due in about a month. Is it better to call before annual fee posts? Is there a consesus if it's better to call or SM?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

+1
This way you will have the bonus post before the fee does and then you can cancel when the fee posts if you want to.
