I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.

It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I'm about to cancel my Platinum (or downgrade to Zinc) today.
Now I wanna do the SPG gold Status
Let me know who you speak to as I called Amex and they told me they will have to pull my credit if I wanted a gold card but SPG told me they just need to confirm something so kinda confused.

U seem rather confused... I'm talking about gettin starwood to grant me Gold Status (because i have the Amex Platinum) and not Amex to give me a Gold Card

I am not confused. When I called SPG they told me to call the number on my Amex SPG card and they will verify the info and upgrade me to SPG gold(no Amex gold).

So I guess the Amex rep was confused and thought you're requesting a gold card.. Otherwise, I can't explain the mentioning of a credit pull

BUMP (since we had this iPhone fiasca today)

I'm about to cancel my Platinum (or downgrade to Zinc) today.
I signed up for
• $200 AA gift cards (already got the credits)
• Priority Club
• Hertz Elite
• Avis Elite
• National Elite

Now I wanna do the SPG gold Status and I have 2 SPG accounts (1 business and one personal), can I get SPG to add gold status to both SPG accounts, or can request it for both SPG accounts (the platinum is a personal one).

Also, any other elite status matches (Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Etc) that I can take advantage of while I still have the platinum?

As mentioned, we have the following:

Wife SPG personal
Me: SPG personal
Me: SPG business

My wife is under a different last name but same address as mine
My business card has my name but different address.

Do you think i'll evantually be able to merge those 3 SPG accounts?

In other words, what are the requirements to merge 3 SPG accounts? Same name, same address, both of them or non of them?

To MERGE an account it has to be the same name.

To transfer from an account the addresses have to match.

If my name along with the business name appears on my business card is thy considered same name?

Is there a fee to TRANSFER points from 1 SPG account to another when both share the same address?

Dunno if this really goes here, but:
We?re writing in response to your recent question about
your United MileagePlus 1K annual bonus credit.

Here?s information on the 1K annual bonus credit:

?If you are a 1K member and a Chase Cardmember, the yearly
benefit is a $60 statement credit.
?Your $60 statement credit will be applied to your account
four to six weeks after your yearly Premier status
designation.
?We also want to remind you that if you have more than one
MileagePlus account, you will receive only one $60.00
statement credit.

I've contacted United and confirmed your 1K member status.
Therefore, I credited your account for the $60.00 annual
bonus credit. You will see this adjustment on your next
month's billing statement.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Waiting on 5k Hyatt points to post. Called to have the fee waived over this past weekend, speaking to the rep she explained the benefits of the cards and why the fee isnt so bad :) I told her no way so she gave me 5k points. She mentioned that on the 14th I start the new billing cycle so if i was to cancel now I would have lost all of my earned points. She continued by telling me I now have 5K points and that after the 14th if I decide to cancel they would, and I still keep the 5k points.

My thoughts are to call back just after that, tell them I want to cancel because of the fee. Maybe they will offer more points or cancel. If they cancel I am planning on asking for a xfer of the credit limit. Then I will reapply for the card hopefully receiving the 2 nights again while I am a diamond. If I reapply should I do so with a new GP number and will Hyatt merge my 2 accounts?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
S

Hi, I was able to cancel my card this morning, did receive the 5k points and the $75 will be credit and card closed with a 0 balance.
My credit line was transferred to another Chase card.
My questions are, how long should I wait before reapplying? should I use the same Hyatt number since I am diamond?
Any advice, as always is appreciated.
S

Hi,

I had an american express gold card which the yearly fee was coming up. I called them up to cancel, and they gave me k15 MR points to keep the card open.

Can I call back three days later and cancel, or they will take away the K15 points?

Thanks

I was just charges the annual fee on Amex PRG. Besides for inital 3k I have put very little on my card. Is there any chance of them waiving fee? If not should I downgrade or just close it? It's a charge card so is there any point to downgrade?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

1. TWTCSIN.
2. You may get points.
3. Downgrade keeps your ability to xfer out points.

Green? Zync? Depending on your desire regarding #3 above.
