I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I just got off phone (1st try) with AmEx, following $175 AF on Premier Rewards... zero offer for retention. The rep even suggested I close it and apply for a different card with no AF, or "try calling back in a little while".

Advice? HUCA? Cancel outright?

How long have you had the card?  How much spending do you do? If nto long/not much then they may not offer you too much.

Lucky you.
Points basically pay for the annual fee. But for churning purposes, I don't know if it's worth to keep it open.

ive had my platinum forever so its good for my history..
the hyatt also has the 1 free night

this is the end of the 1st year, honestly forgot to spend on it in advance of annual fee coming due- I've been working on min spends on other cards. So, if I don't get an offer, how much impact does closing it have? I'm due for an AOR- does it make sense to cancel this at the same time as applying for new cards, or doesn't it matter?

Not sure if there is another Delta CC master thread, or if this perhaps belongs in the up in the air forum.
I was looking at my skymiles account and emails and came across a bonus on my wife's account of 2 X 15K miles on Jan 30th under "SKYMILES AMEX COBRAND CREDIT CARD".
The weird thing is that it actually created a new skymiles account for her that i just merged. I believe when she first signed up for the cards she did biz and personal and got a different number for each and I merged them, however that was over a year ago.
Is this some kind of retention or annual bonus?
I also saw my account got 3 x 10K last feb when I still had the credit card on my name and she got 1 x 10K.
On the retention topic anyone have luck with calling delta amex for retention?

If I downgraded my Sapphire preferred to regular Sapphire, is there a way for me to apply for a Preferred again, and get another sign-up bonus?

You mean as far as credit limits?

And how would I sign up to get the bonus? Would I just sign up for an SP card, and it would automatically upgrade my existing card?

?! i would call up chase and ask to downgrade your SP to just sapphire. then after that sign up (thru dans link) to SP and theres no reason you shouldnt get the sign up bonues once you hit the spending threshold

Will that open a new SP, or change my current reg. Sapphire to a SP?

Just called to cancel my Plat. Rep didn't offer any retention but tried to push me to get the PRG after I mentioned the lack of category bonuses on the Plat. I asked if I'd get the bonus on the PRG but the rep said no because it wouldn't be a new account. I said I'll keep the card for now... I'll try again next week.

just got offered 5k hyatt points to keep the chase hyatt card. I agreed with the assumption that i can still cancel the card within the 60 day period to get my annual fee back.

I have a firsdt hand experience that this works with Amex, does it also work with Chase?

not more than $20 the entire year. thats why i was surprised i was even offered a retention bonus.

The funny thing is 5 minutes beforehand i cancelled a United card on which i spent maybe $3k-$5k during the year, but was not offered any retention bonus.

go figure... just hoping that i can get the bonus and still cancel the card to avoid annual fee?

If it is within the time frame it works. Just wait till the points show up!
