if I apply for the amex premier reward gold is there a good chance they'll waive the annual fee after a year or give me statement credit or bonus? Cause its not really worth it for me if I'm paying the annual fee

It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered.

I believe your assumption is right.  Closing down cards does give you a slight better chance at automatic approval in certain situation because you won't hit against their total chase credit line risk tolerance level.  However, if you don't have extra credit lines in your other cards for a horse trade when you call recon then you are screwed.

I have 2 chase ink cards, one is a charge (ink) and one has a credit line (plus i believe). Called to cancel the plus as the annual fee was due. Was offered 10k pts for spending $5k in 3 months. Seems like a tough call but might be worth keeping.
