RESTAURANTS (the best of)

There are hundreds of kosher restaurants in Paris.  The locals generally don't eat the meat under Beis Din as they don't require Glatt meat.  But they will eat everything else under Beis din.

Search for restaurants by cuisine and hashgocha here.

Activities:
-Segway Tour. Please do not PM Ergel with requests for coupon codes. The codes are long dead
-Seine River Tour
-Eiffel Tour (Metro: Trocadero -6,9)
-Versailles Palace and Gardens. Never wait on line to buy tickets. 1. Use museum pass 2. Buy in advance 3. There are vending machines near the bathrooms (you have to poke around to find them) without lines. (if you go during a really busy time and the line seems endlessly long, go to the gardens first and return to the palace in the afternoon when lines are shorter). To get an audio guide, you usually proceed across the Royal Courtyard after passing security. If the lines for the audio guides are long, turn left in the Courtyard, to the Apartments of the daughter's of Louis XV’s. There you'll find another counter where you can get audio guides, with no lines at all. You can then exit the apartments and continue along the tour, bypassing the longer line.
-Louvre Art Museum (Closed Tuesday) (Metro: Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre -1,7) Shushan/Purim artifacts that can be seen at the Louvre, per the book Purim and the Persian Empire.
-D'Orsay Art Museum (Closed Monday) (Metro: Solférino -12)
-Musée de l'Orangerie des Tuileries (closed Tuesday) small museum featuring Monet's lilies (Metro Concorde: -1,8,12)
-Centre Georges Pompidou modern art museum open 11-9. closed tuedays (Metro: Rambuteau -11)
-Tuileries Gardens. (Metro: Tuileries -1)
-Paris sewer museum Smells really bad but an interesting look at the sewer system
-Champs Elysees shopping (Metro: Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau -1,13)
-Arc de Triomphe (Metro: Charles de Gaulle - Étoile -1,2,6)
-Operan National De Paris opera house. tours daily 11:30 and 2:30. Admission included in Museum Pass, tour extra
-Montmartre (Great neighborhood to walk around with boutiques, artists, and great views, and a funicular that kids will love) (Metro: abbesses -12, Anvers -2)
-The Great Synagogue (La Victoria) is beautiful but the main shul is only open on Shabbos mornings for Shacharis, but definitely worthwhile if you're there over Shabbos (Metro: Notre-Dame-de-Lorette -12)

Hotels:
-Park Hyatt Paris (Hyatt cat 7) is an outstanding value for your points. They used to give a phenomenal kosher breakfast but now it's barely even worth requesting.  Still rooms are a decent size for Paris, the Spa facilities are very nice, and the intoxicating smell used throughout the hotel for forever be linked with the romance of Paris. Ideally located between the Opera and Tuileries metro stations.
The Park Hyatt has free parking, though driving and parking elsewhere in Paris is very difficult.
The Park Hyatt has also complimentary bikes for guests.
There is a backdoor for entry on shabbos.

-The InterContinental Paris - Le Grand is not far from the Park Hyatt. It cost 70k IHG points per night or you can use IHG free nights. It is a good alternitive if the PH is not available or if you don't have/don't want to spend 30k Hyatt points per night.

-The Westin (SPG cat 6) is not as luxurious at the Park Hyatt but is located nearby and does the trick if you only have Starpoints and not Chase or Hyatt points.

Shabbos meals:
-Chabad of Champs Elysees has great shabbos meals and you're sure to bump into other tourists there as well to share tips.
It is a 30 minute walk to the Park Hyatt, but the walk is quite lovely via the Tuileries Gardens and the Champs Elysees.
Reservations are required: http://www.chabadchampselysees.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/888847/jewish/Shabbat-at-Chabad-Champs-Elyses.htm
-if you don't/can't eat at Chabad, they suggest getting takeout from Ben & Cook located in the 8th. Hashgacha: rabbinate Lubavitch De France 33 1 45 61 03 95. 35 Euro for 2 challas, 2 dips, meatballs with noodles or veggies for 2. they close at 3pm on Fridays (in the summer). call for more info
- Friday night meals at Grand Synagogue http://www.tiny.cc/chabbat

There is no eruv in Paris. Consider taking the metro to shul with your talis bag along with return tickets for motzei shabbos.

Transport from CDG:
-If you are going to the Opera area you can take the RoissyBus (pronounced Wahsee-Boos as you will get blank stares if you ask for the Royzee-Bus) which goes there nonstop. You can pay by credit card in the RoissyBus waiting station or on the bus.  The cost is €10.  It is a 5 minute walk to the Park Hyatt.

-There are also train options from CDG: the subway is located in terminal 2E/2F, to get to paris its ligne B (Blue) it should take approximately 30minutes to get to Gare Du Nord
it cost 9€10 each way per person

- Mendy Taxi: 0(1133) 6 50 99 82 93 http://mendystransport.com/en/
- Shimon taxi: 0(1133)6 98 27 16 08  Tamidshuttle@gmail.com

- Uber, Bolt are the best option to get to paris cheapest and fastest

Metro:
The subway is fast, efficient, and cheap. A book of 10 tickets is 13,30€ for adults and 6,65€ for kids.
The subway closes between 12:30 and 2am.

Map:
Streetwise Paris cannot emphasize enough, this is really a must. Of course, if you have GMaps and data you don't need this map unless you really like paper.

Fodor's Paris 2013 (Full-color Travel Guide)

Other Tips
-If you plan on visiting several of the items covered by the Museum Pass - make sure to check it out and price out your options.  Many times it is worth it to get a one-day or multi-day Museum Pass to save some money and more importantly, time (see link for more details: http://en.parismuseumpass.com/)
-Double check days when museums/sites are closed as many do close on different days of the week.

Never even heard of the Great Synagogue. In my research, the closest Shul was a Shteeble that had a few Minyanim. I can't believe that I don't remember the name :-[ but I can try to figure it out.
Next to the Shteeble I went to, there was a Kosher mini market.
Thanks. Do you remember what street it's on? I'm looking on Go Daven but there're lots of choices.

ETA: Was it Synagogue de la Victoire (that's also referred to as the Great Synagogue)? It's the one that you enter in a different building during the week)? They daven Ashkenaz. Or was it the Chabad house on 6 Rue de la Bourse?

Found it. Almost positive it was Beth El because I remember the chocolate shop was at the end of the block (look on Gmaps and you'll see Damyel Cholocates), although it was closed every time I went to Shul.

So this place? It appears to be further than the place I found, but with more minyan options.

The closest Shul for shabbos should be Chabad of the 1st Arrondissement they just moved so contact the Rabbi for the new location. I think they also have Mincha during the week.

You also have chabad of la bourse which is pretty close but prob don't have shachris during the week. So either the one on Rue Saulnier or chabad of the 9th which is like 5 min walk from there and has a daily minyan at 8:45 if I'm not mistaken.

Regarding a grocery store, there's one right across Korkasz it's called Cash Casher Naouri.

Has anyone eaten at or heard anything about?:

Thai One: Looks to be a cheap, meat, lunch place near the PHP, under R' Rottenberg
Delices Moshe: sandwich shop (open for lunch and dinner only) not 5 minutes walk from PHP under Bet Din of Paris.
Izakki: Japanese/sushi place, under the Bet Din of Paris

I'm asking about the pareve items only at all places.

Does Darjeeling have food for those who don't like Indian food? My DW isn't a big Indian food fan and I love Indian food.

Theyre not necessarily open on Sunday... It's France... I guess you should call up in advance.

I'm in the middle of planning our 3-full-day stay in Paris. So far I have:

Mon- Champs Elysee, Arc du Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Segway Tour
Tue- ??? Montmartre, 19th for Diary chocolate and bakery
Wed- Versailles, Louvre

Does anyone have suggestions of what else to do on Tuesday? Is the Musée Orsay really that good? It's the #1 attraction in Paris apparently, but we're not huge art people. Even if we go it won't take up all day. Any other ideas?

I say skip Musee d'Orsay if you're not into art. Are you going to La Marais at all?
Saint-Germain-des-Pres is a nice area to walk around in if you have the time.
I would maybe split Versailles and Louvre into different days. They are both "big" attractions with a lot of walking. When you go to Louvre, allow some time for Jardin des Tuileries.

What do you have in mind by Montmartre? (There are 2 that's why I'm asking...)

You can go to the opera and the big daprtment stores next to it (galleries Lafayette and printemps) they have very good stuff but it's also expensive so it depends on your budget.

What type of other activities are you looking for? If for something Jewish I'd definitely go to visit La voctoire synagogue. You can also go on the 2 islands in the middle of Paris, walk by the seine, the museum of the army is pretty interesting too and in a gorgeous area, palais de l'elysee for a meeting with president holland... The garden of Luxembourg is a must IMHO, if you go to theaters there's a huge one not far from the bourse I forgot what it's called but I'm sure you can find with a quick search it's like one of the biggest in the world.

I would maybe split Versailles and Louvre into different days. They are both "big" attractions with a lot of walking. When you go to Louvre, allow some time for Jardin des Tuileries.
We do plan on going to Le Marais a couple times. We arrive Sunday afternoon and plan on going there then to pick up food for breakfast on Monday.

I'll have to check into the Saint-Gaermain-des-Pres area; thanks for the idea!

So with Versaille closed on Monday (and therefore people say to avoid it on Tuesday) and the Louvre closed on Tuesday, both activities ended up on Wednesday (initially I wanted to do the Louvre on Tue morning). I did plan to visit the Jardin des Tuileries after the Louvre though.

What do you have in mind by Montmartre? (There are 2 that's why I'm asking...)

You can go to the opera and the big daprtment stores next to it (galleries Lafayette and printemps) they have very good stuff but it's also expensive so it depends on your budget.

By Montmartre I had in mind the neighborhood in the 18th. I heard it was a nice area to walk around. Does that make sense?

The opera and Galleries Lafayette sound interesting, although the opera sounds more interesting than the mall. I looked into davening at La Victoire syangogue, but never just visiting to see the inside. Can you do that?

We plan on visiting Palais Elysee on Monday on the way to the Arc, but since it's not the 3rd week in September we won't be able to go in unfortunately.

The Luxembourg Gardens look interesting though. I'll have to look into it.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
So taking all this information in, maybe I should rearrange my schedule as follows:

Sun- arrive late pm and go to Le Marais for breakfast food (bread, etc)
Mon- Louvre in the morning, the Opera (since it's down the lock from the PHP) and possibly the Luxembourg Gardens (which seems to include walking around Saint-Germain-des-Pres), ending with the (pre-booked) segway tour at 6:30pm (near the Eiffel Tower).
Tue- Eylsee Palace, walk up Champs Elysee, Arc du Triomphe, Tibs for lunch, Eiffel Tower.
Wed- Versailles in the morning, (pre-booked tour; save the comments about how easy it is to do it yourself: I had a 50% off coupon making the tour cheaper than doing it myself), Montmartre in the afternoon, go to the 19th (Jewish area) for chocolate and dairy bakeries
Thur- leave in the morning

Does this make more sense? Would Monday become too packed?

I don't know enough to comment about all those specific activities, but the new itinerary looks MUCH better! I don't think Monday is too packed. You can always leave the gardens if it gets too close to 6:30PM.

I don't think Monday is too packed, but it's definitely busier than Tuesday. You can always push Saint-Germain-des-Pres or the Opera to Tuesday if need be.

I'm going to post my trip notes from my trip a few years ago- it might help you out.

Thanks! True, we could go to the gardens/ Opera after the Tower, since my guess is that we'll be done there by like 5:30pm. I still need to figure out where we'll eat for all meals.

This was my itinerary from before the trip. Everything did not end up exactly as planned, but it's a rough outline. Also, this was from 2012 so the hours might not be the same as listed here.
And had I known about Dansdeals at this point in my life, it would be Uber all the way (referral credits!)- no subway.

Monday: Buy Zone 1-5 Navigo Decouverte card from RER Station.  Take RER B to Gare de Lyon- recommended to go into car behind conductor (bicycle) as compartment is larger. Leave luggage at station. (Consigne).
7e:  Rue Cler (street market), The Eiffel Tower (bought tickets for 12:00 PM), Bateaux Mouches Boat Tour departs from Pont de Alma (no reservation, 11.5 euro), Rue de Grenelle ( if time permits)
FOOD: No Kosher restaurants in area. Bring food with. Dinner: Beggel Off- 246, boulevard Voltaire 75011 Nagila Meat Style (near voltaire metro stop)

Tuesday: 17e, 8e: Arc De Triomphe, Champs Elysees (try to go later in day, around sunset) Damyel chocolate store: 93 avenue Villiers 75017 Paris
FOOD: Tibs, Dairy Cafe, 51 Rue Bayen 75017 -Opens at 12 pm daily
O Gusto, Dairy Italian 98 avenue des Ternes 75017
L’Inte Caffe, Dairy Italian Fusion 22, rue Cambaceres 75008- Lunch 12-230, Dinner opens 8 pm
Deloren Cafe, French Italian Meat 45, avenue Friedland 75008
Gaspard, Nice Meat 84 Rue Lauriston 75116 - Lunch 12-3, Dinner 730

Wednesday: 3e: Marais: Rue de Rosiers, Monoprix Store, Place des Vosges (shopping center), Hotel de Ville, Place Vendome(holiday lights)
FOOD: Le Xleme Art(highly recommended). Nice Meat. 144 Blvd Voltaire 75011. Lunch 11:30-3:00, Dinner 7:30. Semi-expensive, maybe lunch.

Thursday: 18e, 1e:  1e Arrondissment: Rue Montorgueil g3, Forum des Halles, Louvre, Jardin Des Tuileries,  Passage des Panoramas(time permitting), Montmartre
FOOD: La Regatta: Dairy/Italian/Sushi. Good Prices. 6, rue du Ponceau 75002. Lunch 11-4, Dinner 7 pm.
Le Grand Merchant Louvre, Dairy Formal, good prices.24 quai du Louvre 75001 Lunch 12-3, Dinner 8 pm.

Friday: 6e,11e: Bus 38 from North to South, Saint-Germain-des-Pres 6e, Pickup Shabbat Takeout: Le Manhattan 231 Bd Voltaire 75011 Paris, Bastille Market (11e)
FOOD: Il Pallazo (St. Michel)  Dairy Casual. 36, boulevard St-Michel 75006. Friday 12-3 pm

Wow, that's nicely planned. In which places did you end up eating, and were they good?
