RESTAURANTS (the best of)

There are hundreds of kosher restaurants in Paris.  The locals generally don't eat the meat under Beis Din as they don't require Glatt meat.  But they will eat everything else under Beis din.

Search for restaurants by cuisine and hashgocha here.

Activities:
-Segway Tour. Please do not PM Ergel with requests for coupon codes. The codes are long dead
-Seine River Tour
-Eiffel Tour (Metro: Trocadero -6,9)
-Versailles Palace and Gardens. Never wait on line to buy tickets. 1. Use museum pass 2. Buy in advance 3. There are vending machines near the bathrooms (you have to poke around to find them) without lines. (if you go during a really busy time and the line seems endlessly long, go to the gardens first and return to the palace in the afternoon when lines are shorter). To get an audio guide, you usually proceed across the Royal Courtyard after passing security. If the lines for the audio guides are long, turn left in the Courtyard, to the Apartments of the daughter's of Louis XV’s. There you'll find another counter where you can get audio guides, with no lines at all. You can then exit the apartments and continue along the tour, bypassing the longer line.
-Louvre Art Museum (Closed Tuesday) (Metro: Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre -1,7) Shushan/Purim artifacts that can be seen at the Louvre, per the book Purim and the Persian Empire.
-D'Orsay Art Museum (Closed Monday) (Metro: Solférino -12)
-Musée de l'Orangerie des Tuileries (closed Tuesday) small museum featuring Monet's lilies (Metro Concorde: -1,8,12)
-Centre Georges Pompidou modern art museum open 11-9. closed tuedays (Metro: Rambuteau -11)
-Tuileries Gardens. (Metro: Tuileries -1)
-Paris sewer museum Smells really bad but an interesting look at the sewer system
-Champs Elysees shopping (Metro: Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau -1,13)
-Arc de Triomphe (Metro: Charles de Gaulle - Étoile -1,2,6)
-Operan National De Paris opera house. tours daily 11:30 and 2:30. Admission included in Museum Pass, tour extra
-Montmartre (Great neighborhood to walk around with boutiques, artists, and great views, and a funicular that kids will love) (Metro: abbesses -12, Anvers -2)
-The Great Synagogue (La Victoria) is beautiful but the main shul is only open on Shabbos mornings for Shacharis, but definitely worthwhile if you're there over Shabbos (Metro: Notre-Dame-de-Lorette -12)

Hotels:
-Park Hyatt Paris (Hyatt cat 7) is an outstanding value for your points. They used to give a phenomenal kosher breakfast but now it's barely even worth requesting.  Still rooms are a decent size for Paris, the Spa facilities are very nice, and the intoxicating smell used throughout the hotel for forever be linked with the romance of Paris. Ideally located between the Opera and Tuileries metro stations.
The Park Hyatt has free parking, though driving and parking elsewhere in Paris is very difficult.
The Park Hyatt has also complimentary bikes for guests.
There is a backdoor for entry on shabbos.

-The InterContinental Paris - Le Grand is not far from the Park Hyatt. It cost 70k IHG points per night or you can use IHG free nights. It is a good alternitive if the PH is not available or if you don't have/don't want to spend 30k Hyatt points per night.

-The Westin (SPG cat 6) is not as luxurious at the Park Hyatt but is located nearby and does the trick if you only have Starpoints and not Chase or Hyatt points.

Shabbos meals:
-Chabad of Champs Elysees has great shabbos meals and you're sure to bump into other tourists there as well to share tips.
It is a 30 minute walk to the Park Hyatt, but the walk is quite lovely via the Tuileries Gardens and the Champs Elysees.
Reservations are required: http://www.chabadchampselysees.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/888847/jewish/Shabbat-at-Chabad-Champs-Elyses.htm
-if you don't/can't eat at Chabad, they suggest getting takeout from Ben & Cook located in the 8th. Hashgacha: rabbinate Lubavitch De France 33 1 45 61 03 95. 35 Euro for 2 challas, 2 dips, meatballs with noodles or veggies for 2. they close at 3pm on Fridays (in the summer). call for more info
- Friday night meals at Grand Synagogue http://www.tiny.cc/chabbat

There is no eruv in Paris. Consider taking the metro to shul with your talis bag along with return tickets for motzei shabbos.

Transport from CDG:
-If you are going to the Opera area you can take the RoissyBus (pronounced Wahsee-Boos as you will get blank stares if you ask for the Royzee-Bus) which goes there nonstop. You can pay by credit card in the RoissyBus waiting station or on the bus.  The cost is €10.  It is a 5 minute walk to the Park Hyatt.

-There are also train options from CDG: the subway is located in terminal 2E/2F, to get to paris its ligne B (Blue) it should take approximately 30minutes to get to Gare Du Nord
it cost 9€10 each way per person

- Mendy Taxi: 0(1133) 6 50 99 82 93 http://mendystransport.com/en/
- Shimon taxi: 0(1133)6 98 27 16 08  Tamidshuttle@gmail.com

- Uber, Bolt are the best option to get to paris cheapest and fastest

Metro:
The subway is fast, efficient, and cheap. A book of 10 tickets is 13,30€ for adults and 6,65€ for kids.
The subway closes between 12:30 and 2am.

Map:
Streetwise Paris cannot emphasize enough, this is really a must. Of course, if you have GMaps and data you don't need this map unless you really like paper.

Guidebooks

Fodor's Paris 2013 (Full-color Travel Guide)

Other Tips
-If you plan on visiting several of the items covered by the Museum Pass - make sure to check it out and price out your options.  Many times it is worth it to get a one-day or multi-day Museum Pass to save some money and more importantly, time (see link for more details: http://en.parismuseumpass.com/)
-Double check days when museums/sites are closed as many do close on different days of the week.

On my way to the airport. Not many replies until now.
Anybody know what the situation with the chabad hechsher is
Thanks
I was told that for meat stick with Chabad and Rottenberg and for milk you can even eat in beis din restaurants as the main problem is beis din restaurants having non-glatt meat.

But ask locals and find out for yourself.

-Pitzman (4) had some of the best pizza we've ever had.
-LeShine (17) had pretty good chinese
-Il Conte ( 8 ) had pretty good milchig along with great free bread with spicy garlic oil.
-Darjeeling (17) is supposed to be amazing Indian food, but we went there at 6pm only to find out they didn't open until 7:30pm for dinner.
-La Marina (19) had OK milchig stuff but had an amazing dessert not to be missed called Farandole.  Perhaps eat the main meal at another milchig place called Tib's next door.
-Korcarz (4) has a bakery with some great stuff like their mini lemon meringue pies.  Sit down restaurant there isnt great and they'll charge you a lot to eat the bakery stuff sitting down.  In fact in general for Paris if you take stuff to go you'll save up to 40% of the sit down price depending on the place.
-Chez Hakol (19) is supposed to be the best bakery but we didn't make it here.
-Damyel's Chocolates (19) excellent parve chocolates, but don't miss the dozens of flavors of macarons which are all the craze.
-Ardely's Chocolates (19) excellent milchig chocolates next door to tib's, la marina, and damyel's.

If LeShin, has as logo, the hebrew letter of 'Siyn', so i ate there, assuming the chabad hechsher is always ok, but was told that in this case I was mistaken...

I have a hard time believing that Chabad would put their hechsher on a restaurant that wasn't mehadrin.  Who told you that you were mistaken?

A religious (not taliban) frenchie, a regular guy, that is "with it".

Again, chabad worldwide is known to be a good hechsher, but in France, the general trend (with all hechsherim) is that you quote the hechsher + the place, only then can you be told whether good or not.

Some hechsherim are categorically not very good, and others maybe good, but by a lot, its apparently not the case.

I'm not trying to pretend to be SH (super holy), again, I myself ate there, and was convinced that its ok.

Tibs is better and more upper class then La Marina but it is also pricier. So if price is a factor I'd say La Marina is better bang buck.

Both Lubavitch and Rottenberg are 100% glatt.

Guys, once again.

I'm not a taliban, but lubavitch hechsher in paris is not always tops.

For ref: I live close to france and encounter those hechsherim in the local supermarkets very often, so I'm in the inyonim.

But do whatever you like.

Dan you are right, but going with 3 kids on the subway is not easy as well. A taxi from cdg to ph costs about 60 euros a. Thats 120 to start with. The car was 180 for 4 days for a bmw.
I found parking 300 yards a way, it did cost 6 euros but nunu.

Which pizza did you get? We loved the concept of the tropical pizza (pineapple, hearts of palm, corn, mushrooms)
It sounds funny, but it was really quite good!

Ok, here a quick tripreport on Paris

Arrived sunday evening with AF from ZRH. I rented a car from Sixt. Got it through Shlomo Sixt in Israel, cost was 190 Euros for 4 days for a full size. I am a platinum member, all over the world they upgrade me, not in Paris. At the end they gave me a BMW 1 series, since I demanded a automatic without extra charge. Drive to the PH was about 40 min. I was told in advance, that during the summer vacation, there will not be traffic in Paris. That was right, through our entire stay, we didnt have any traffic, even rushhour. The PH offers free valet parking, that was amazing. They bring the car whenever needed and I never had to look for parking. Check-in was no problem. We got 2 connecting rooms, one deluxe, one regular. The deluxe is a little bigger, nothing special. They only have 5 connecting rooms in the hotel, if you need one call early! We then drove to Pizman for supper. It was good but nothing out of this world. Yes, my wife did try the Dan-Pizza (i mean Hawai), it was ok. Parking was a hassle, we parked 500 meters away in a parking house.
They called us that night and asked what time we want our kosher breakfast and what exactly we would like. The next morning 08-30 a jewish lady (not frum) brought the food to the room. Pastries from Koracz, fresh orange juice, jam..... All was very good and free as a diamond. The hotel even got a toy car for my boys, a very nice gesture.
We drove monday to Disneyworld, its about 45 min. from the hotel. The Disneyhotel and the New York hotel sell a special VIP pass, that gives you the right to skip all lines. It costs 60 Euros p.p. Expensive, but worth it for one day if you travel with little kids. Thats not including the entrance. We parked in the parkinglot of the hotel, as the guard let us in to pick up our vip pass (saved 20 Euros). Please note, you can only get the Vip Pass at these 2 places and they only sell a limited amount a day. I bought the entrance tickets online the night before, its ablout 20% cheaper. 53 Euros a person, even kids. With the vip pass, it was 113 Euros a person, not very cheap.
It was a very nice day, we left at 9 PM, the kids enjoyed it very much. I hate mickey mouse since then ;-)
We only made it back to Paris 10-30, so we picked up some food from LeShine. It was very good, its a 15 min drive from the hotel.
Tuesday, we took a bus tour through Paris. Was very nice and we were able to jump on and of as we wanted. Didnt go to the louvre with the kids. At 17-00 we arrived to the Eiffeltower, but the wait was about 2 hours, so no thank you. We took a boat up the river from there and walked 20 min back to the hotel from the closest boatstop. We had supper in Darjeeling (indian food), was good and something else for once. Its not far from Leshine. That night I ordered online tickets for the eiffeltower. You can book it online for a set time and dont have to wait then. I booked the next night 21-00, I can only recommend to book about this time in the summer, as we got to see Paris during the day and night like this.
Wednesday, we went to Versailles. I will not write about it, google it. Line was very short, we also ordered tickets online the night before. After we got back (30 min drive) we went shopping at Gallery Lafayette. Its 10 min walk from the hotel and a famous shopping center in paris. They have all brands and are very big. We had supper in Leshine, their sushi was also very good. I drove to the Eiffeltower from there (5 min), there was parking 5 mins walk away for 3 Euros a hour. We skipped the line and got to the elevator with our reserved tickets after 5 min. Really nice up there, great view ( 21-20 day, 22-00 night )
Thursday, we left the hotel at 12 and drove to the airport after picking up a hot pastrami sandwich from a place right next to Koracz with Rav Rottenbergs Hechsher, I think its called mickeys. CDG airport is very big, we almost missed our flight. Be there early, as some terminals can only be reched by bus or train from the main Terminal.

Nice report!

The skip-the-line pass sounds worthwhile.  I went to Cedar Point (roller coaster capital of the world) the other day and a similar pass is $400 per person!

Free valet does indeed sound awesome, but even if I had known that i wouldn't have rented a car when the RoissyBus goes nonstop to the Park Hyatt Paris for dirt cheap and the metro is equally dirt cheap and efficient.

The Park Hyatt is truly an awesome experience though!  They gave us pastries, bread, jam, and juice on some of the days and fancy cheeses on another.  They'll get whatever you want for free though.  I asked for a cheesecake one day and they came through!

Did you check out the spa at they Park Hyatt?

Sorry you didn't enjoy Pitzman, seems like people either love it or can't understand what the fuss is about.  Personally we found it to be a nice change from American Pizza.

LeShine was fine, but the chinese food was not much better than what i can get accross the street from me in Cleveland.  Although I recall their egg rolls being quite delicious.

Did you miss the chocolate shops though???

I got my license in new york, so i cant drive stick-shift
if you are a couple subway is fine, but i didnt want to chase 3 kids in the metro and shlep a stroller up and down the stairs.
I thought the spa was average, very small and nothing special, but its a spa in the best area of paris, so space is very expensive.
The food service was really nice, i asked for lox and they served it every morning.

+1, and with free valet it's a no brainer with a few kids.

I thought the spa was average, very small and nothing special, but its a spa in the best area of paris, so space is very expensive.
There's a very large hot tub, a dry sauna, and a wet sauna.
It's definitely one of the only spa facilities I've seen where it's mixed gender, but we never saw another soul in there.  The free chilled bottles of water and fruit is nice as well.
What else do you want?

The food service was really nice, i asked for lox and they served it every morning.
Yup, they'll pretty much get you anything as a diamond.

They even gave me 18K points because of some noise that woke us up one day!
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
