Haven't been, but could probably answer your questions about it.

I'm planning to do a day trip there in May. Is that enough time? We would take the ferry from Key West, not a plane.

A day trip is perfect.

If you're up for an adventure, camp there overnight.

Has anyone done a day cruise from Miami beach down to Keywest and back same day?

I stayed at The Saint Hotel in Key west (https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/eywak-the-saint-hotel-key-west-autograph-collection/) - it's a Marriott property located in the downtown area. It's a beautiful boutique hotel and our room had direct access to the pool. We asked them to get us Thomas's English muffins for breakfast and they did (plus fruit and coffee). They were very accommodating.  The rooms are small but really nice. It's great for walking everywhere but it is not at the beach. We didn't rent a car and walked to all the attractions.

I think Mallory Square for sunset is completely overhyped.

Dry Tortugas was a great day trip. It's a long ferry ride there and back, the fort is really interesting and you can snorkel - it's not the biodiversity of other places I've been, but it was really interesting to see how the coral is expanding to the moat walls around the fort.

Lighthouse Museum was fun to climb and get a good view of the city and surrounding areas.

I really enjoyed Hemingway's house even though I do not appreciate a single piece of literature that he ever wrote.

The Shipwreck Museum is currently closed for renovations. We did stop in at Mel Fisher's treasures and the staff told us about all the different shipwrecks around Key West and the stuff they found.

We also went to a free rum distillery where you can get information on how they make rum.

We stopped in at the Florida Eco Keys discovery center which is free. It's small and perfectly good for little kids.

On the way to Miami, we drove to Blue Hole and saw a ton of animals (alligator, iguanas, birds, salamanders, lizards and deer). It was a great, quick stop.

Was it all rebuilt after the last hurricane?

I have nothing to compare it to, but everything seemed to be in good working condition.

Anyone stay at the waldorf (hilton) properties there, Casa Marina and/or the Reach? Trying to figure out where to stay. Marriotts are all now category 6 or higher, and the IHG la concha isnt allowing a reward stay. any other suggestions for a really nice place (reaching out of the points hotels)? obv want to be able to walk to chabad (hour for shabbos walks is fine) and mams.

Hi. Planing to do a day trip from south Florida to the Key West, which snorkeling place is best / cheapest. Going with young kids, don't need the more adventurous, just simple snorkeling for an hour/two.
Also what is other attractions that are recommended for kids? Better cheap/or free.
TIA.

We enjoyed our time at the dry tortugas. It's a really interesting bit of history too. But if you've snorkeled in other places, it definitely isn't as amazing.

been killed, but hoping to push out end of year... can obviously answer any questions. we had an awesome time, but note the place is really best as a new orleans/couples trip vs family.
