At the end of the tour, the ranger started going in to the religious aspects of the rock, and how it’s sacred to the Aborigines. Although technically it’s permitted to climb to the top, they strongly discourage it due to the religious sensitivity. This made for quite a lively discussion. Personally, I absolutely would have climbed, had I had the time. The window of opportunity is closing, as the Aborigines are putting pressure to end climbing once and for all. I also had a problem with signs forbidding photography of certain ‘sensitive’ parts of the rock, and I have posted these photos for your viewing pleasure. (Tip: Although the weather was quite warm, at the start of the tour at 8am, it was freezing, so dress accordingly)

Probably the best way to view Uluru is from the air, and there are a bunch of helicopter companies vying for business. Nobody had an official policy regarding child and infant pricing, so I called each company, told them what we needed, and went with the cheapest one.

The view from the air definitely did not disappoint, and was one of our highlights.

Interestingly, in the weeks before our visit, the area experienced unusually high rainfall, which caused an abundance of plant growth. This caused a rare contrast of red and green which was interesting to see from the sky)

Won't eat that more than once either. But in middle of a strenuous all-day hike while sitting on a ledge on the end of the world (still can't believe noone here has tried that hike) it was a treat to have a piping hot cheese ravioli meal. We even took along some Parmesan cheese and some sauce though to make it taste better

Would love to do it. Last time I was in Kauai I wasn't with the right crowd. And I wouldn't do it alone.
