I may have been exaggerating a little. What can I say- you've taught me well Dan. I'm used to paying pennies and so now paying 3000$ for a vacation is what I thought only layman do ! :D

OK -- if I pay 573$/per night for the difference is it worth it to save my certificates for something else and book a different villa with cash? A quick Google search shows me plenty of OWB in that price range. "Vakarufalhi Island Resort" seems particularly nice. Anyone been there? I want to go scuba diving too, so a nice reef is important.

Question is: does adding the certificate make my nearly 600$ a night quality of room THAT much better than a paid room @ 600$/night? If not... maybe I'll cancel and save the certificates. But I'm willing to use the free night certs to get a much better  value for my 600$ -- as long as it's truly the case. Luckily we are going in May so it is the beginging of low-season and prices seem lower so far in advance.

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but you can almost go to the Halaveli for that price...

Is Halaveli nicer than Hyatt?

Has anyone stayed at the PH and gotten a fridge in the room? They're quoting me $20/person/meal to store and warm up our own meals and trying to figure out whether we'd be able to get away with storing some food in our room.

Pay it. They hate people who bring meals, this relatively small payment may pacify them.

Wow. They've gotten cheap.

Luckily, I've never had an issue with being charged for food. You'd think a hotel charging $1000+/night wouldn't nickel and dime like this.

20/person/meal can add up pretty quickly.

They can hate it all they want. Nowhere do the terms obligate one to spend $100/meal/person at their overpriced restaurants.

I read an article how some hotels in the Maldives are not allowing Chinese tour groups anymore because they bring their ramen noodles and don't spend any money in the hotel. I would hate to read a similar article about the Jews.

We're definitely going to be paying for some of the meals but yeah, 20/person/meal adds up pretty quickly so don't want to pay for what we don't need.

Did you bring your own food or you ordered from the caterer?
