Now see space on JFK-DCA and 2 in F is still a possibility on IAD-AUH. Should I switch now so we're both in F on the same flight, or hang tight with my J and F seats and hold out hope that one more F seat opens (4 in Freedom remain) out of JFK?
Thank goodness I held tight, because just now someone must have canceled a seat on EY 102 and the flight went from having 4 seats in F to 5 seats in F, with one available as a Guest Award. I dialed the AA UK number faster than a kid chasing an ice cream truck and locked that second apartment down with 10 days to go to the devaluation! and to top it off, they were also able to lock down business class on EY 278 to MLE. Woot Woot! I kid you not, the space was not there at any of the 10 times I checked earlier today.

I'm watching EY 103 (still has 6 seats as Freedom) to see whether that will open in F. Based on anecdotal checks, it seems they open seats last minute more frequently on the JFK-AUH route than on the reverse, and when they do, typically one seat at a time.

Now EY 103 has 5 seats in Freedom. Makes me wonder if I missed a window to snag one award seat. I've not been as diligent since confirming us both in First on the A380 on the outbound. Perhaps someone actually paid for the seat.

In case anyone is wondering about upgrade prices for the Conrad this is what they e-mailed me for a Sep. stay.  Not sure how it compares to the Park Hyatt.  I did confirm three nights in OWB and asked for a confirmed upgrade gratis to a Deluxe Beach Villa the other two nights and they did that for me too.

Upgrade from King Beach Villa to King Water Villa US$ 200 + 10% service charge + 12% T GST per night.

Yeah, Sep is the "shoulder" season although I think I've seen people saying they also got similar prices for Winter/Spring dates. The King Superior seems like the best value since it offers more privacy than The regular OWB and only a little more.

I just received  a "schedule change notification" from Etihad. It shows my return now on EY 103 (on the 380 at 3:35am). Of course I've been watching this flight for availability but it had not opened up. I'm guessing EY proactively switched the flight because our original flight, EY101 had a schedule change to 10:10am from 9:30 am departure. Only hiccup is that AA.com is not displaying our flights (any segment) properly now, so will give a call in to confirm everything is properly ticketed.

Just got off the phone with AA. Will take about 72 hours to reissue the ticket on the new EY flight, but the change is confirmed as made by EY. Also, due to the schedule change, they are allowing us to catch an earlier flight from LGA to YYZ (even though there's no Saver space on that flight).

talk about a luckbox
+1000. When I first saw the email regarding the schedule change this morning, I was sure that something had gone wrong, and even once I noticed what the actual change was, I was afraid that the a380 had been swapped off EY103. I never imagined that it was  EY proactively moving me 1) from the Jetihad 777, to 2) the a380 and 3) with a far more favorable connection time all due to a 45 minute schedule change on EY101. As a cherry on top, I now have the added flexibility with respect to AA that comes with "involuntary schedule changes."

I wonder whether EY did it because they were afraid of me missing the connecting AA flight or just because they figured I wouldn't mind the shorter connection in AUH. "Only downside is that I won't get to sample the first class product on Jetihad", said no one booked on the 380 ever!
