Is it called the water villa? Also do the basic OWBs have private pools?

Yup, all the OWV's and the Deluxe Beach Villas all have pools.

it happens some times.  Some people prefer the beach villa because it's 1600 sqft, has an outdoor shower and bigger pool.

Others can chime in but it's not the kind of place to bring a grill, lol. Bring frozen and wrapped whatever you want they will reheat it and deliver it to your room.

You won't enjoy it as much. You can get a phenomenal beach vacation for 1/5th the price if that's what you want.
Just seems silly.

+1 Emkay actually has a great (start)  :P of a trip report of I think Sri Lanka that he did with a small child. If you don't want to go all the way to Thailand and you're flying from Israel that could be an option.

The Park Hyatt is even worse than other Maldives resorts b/c can't take a Seaplane and have to take a rundown local flight to another island and then a choppy Speedboat to the PH.  Read Lucky's TR on OMAAT...he travels insane amounts and even he said it was really annoying and draining and he wasn't traveling with a small kid...

Same here. My kid was in 18+ countries before he turned 2  and there are dozens of places I would go before there in that scenario.

Well I personally took my one year old to PH, and I vehemently differ with all the speculation here.

Noone said regret. It will be phenomenal. Doesn't mean you can't have the same experience for an 8th of the price with more to do.

As a side note a one year old is worlds apart from a one and a half year old.

I don't think it's a "terrible idea" and once you get there and pay a ton you'll have a great time.  Sorry to go economist on you but my thing is really understanding the opportunity cost of time and money for the Maldives (or really anything for that matter), personal preferences and possible substitute products.  Others can help you with the first and third and only you know the second.  You figure these three things out and you'll have your answer.

What else could you do with two extra days of vacation, not wasted on travel after you get to Male, and $1200+ on seaplane fees, if you went somewhere else? It will be a great but sub-optimal trip with a toddler.  If your answer to that question doesn't provide something you'd rather do with that extra time or money, then these costs are worth it to you an you should go!

While I was there I kept thinking my older kids would be blown away by the snorkeling, etc. but when we considered returning with them, we instead booked at the Conrad Koh Samui where I can also get amazing views, a quick and free speedboat ride to snorkeling, a bigger private pool, kosher food delivered, and a quick air hop to great communities for Shabbos.  Obviously it's not the same, but for me it was a much more practical, cheaper (I'd have to pay $3000+ just in seaplane fees) and great substitute.

Looking to book our Honeymoon trip soon and wanted to split the time between Thailand and MLE. The plan was to try for CX F to Thailand, spend 10 days there, and then fly to MLE for 5 days before flying EY F back to the US. Any advice on this as a general plan (too much to go to both?) and ideas about the best way to get from BKK (or USM) to MLE? I almost want to pay for the Bangkok Airways direct flight rather than spend time flying through SIN or CMB. Any thoughts?

If you fly thru SIN spend a day or two there

anyways you seem to be thinking it was too much time anyways.
I'm guessing your doing 10 and 5 because of the SPG 5th Night free

so then if you did want to do SIN you would either lose the 5th night or make your trip longer.

also you can stop in HKG

Why pay for Bangkok Airways when it's only 20k AF miles for Y or 30k CX points in J. You can't search online but the Air France reps were very helpful and it was a very painless process.
