Who is traveling with you and would they feel uncomfortable to spend the night in a 2 star local lodge in Pakistan or Egypt? I loved my trip to the Maldives but would much rather add an NYC-SFO flight than spend the night in Male. The magic of the Maldives is being whisked to the hotel lounge, going on an awesome seaplane and then basically landing in fantasy island. You want to throw a night in Pakistan into that magical experience? I would postpone a Trip rather than stay in Male. My BIL went last year and arrived on the late Cathay Pacific flight and his wife said she’d rather not come back again if it had to be on an evening flight. Even the nicest hotels are ghetto (they booked theirs through the Conrad). I’d LOVE to go back to the Maldives but not with an overnight in Male, a dirty, crowded Islamic fundamentalist island...just giving you another perspective.
I’m with @Denverite on this one...

Having done the male city tour, I'd be fine spending 1 night there (though I probably wouldn't leave my room after dark).

OTOH, there's no way I'd get DW to agree to a plan like that :)

I wouldn't gobthst fsr, but probably avoid the overnight if possible

So full disclosure, my DH and in-laws are Persian and were smuggled out of Iran via Pakistan, and that experience probably left them all with a little PTSD so maybe that's why they all extra despised Male (although they all loved Dubai so it isn't the Muslim thing).  Ashkenazi people might think Male is "cool cultural experience" but they weren't having any of it. ;D :P

There are a bunch of places to stay on the same island as the airport. It's not in the city, and looks like would only have tourists and employees there.

Yes,
1. Blue Mosque
2. Kosher Restaurant [ not sure how kosher]
3. Shul
4. Ferry on the Bosphorus River
5. Main Shuk

Use Uber for cool taxi rides but dont select local taxi option.

Depending on your connecting flight TK might provide an hotel or tour service.

Always praying for delayed baggage.

Chances of getting upgraded to a larger water Villa (that allows 2 adults and 2 kids) if I'm booked in a beach Villa at the Conrad. -assuming there is availability? I'm Diamond from CC.

Anyone been to the Conrad for Shabbos? Looking for general tips and information. Also, stay in overwater or switch to beach villa for shabbos?

Has anyone ever had issues with mosquitos while in the Maldives? Sounds like it’s a good idea to apply repellent but just not sure how big of an issue it is.

I didn't see any, but the general consensus on the ground is to apply repellent.

Correct, there are a few around and all the resorts spray for them daily, but apply bug spray.

For the seaplane transfer: In addition to the 5kg allowed for a rollaway, can you also bring a small purse/backpack? Or will they weigh that too?
