Crazy.  And AU food is expensive as it is.

Why not just bring food?

Aussie meals are ~$20 range so with exchange rate you're looking at  $17-$18. How much more than POM meals is that?

With the service fee to store/serve food, figured I'd get a quote on the meals...

Depends on the meal, anywhere from $10-$30, though POM's portion sizes are quite large.

210 dollars of food is not alot, so the fixed costs are quite high
Probably if you would order more, the costs wouldn't be much more

By me it was about +100% but my food order was more then 1000 dollars

After going back and forth over email with the PH, I finally called and got some clarification: Fee for storage/reheating is only $15/person/day. The $20/person/meal charge they originally quoted was actually on top of that daily fee but ONLY if you want them to serve it to you on their special "kosher" dishes/cutlery in the restaurant or room. If you eat in your room with your own dishes/cutlery, it seems it would only be $15/day which is a little more reasonable if you're going to bring more than just 1 meal/day.

Is it $15/person/meal/day? Meaning if you are there for 8 days you pay for the meal on the last day $15 * 8? And the seventh day 15 * 7? and so on..?

He is asking if they charge per meal stored. I.E. if you store two meals for one day is it $30?

Like I wrote, its per person per day.

Here is my email exchange:

I asked about kosher food on the phone when I first called to upgrade to OWB. They responded with :
Quote
If you wish to get your own food the cost would be USD 20++ per person per meal ,which includes the storage and the service.

I emailed back with a question about getting a fridge in the room and they responded:
Quote
Yes we can store the packed and frozen food items in the kitchen . The charges for food storage, reheating and defrosting would be USD 15++ per person per day. Please note we only have minibar available which is not a functional refrigerator. This will not keep food items cold to the same standard as a refrigerator.

At this point I called up because i was totally confused and asked on the phone. She then explained that the $20 was for service (service = being served in hotel on their "kosher" dishes") and she said she would email with confirmation of price for just food storage without the "service"

Quote
We are pleased to confirm the rate USD 15++ for the storage and service if required.

my response:

Quote
Just to confirm, this means it would be $15 per person per day to store, defrost and heat up the packaged meals and then we would be able to just eat the food in our room with our own cutlery and utensils and not be charged anything else?

To which she responded:
Quote
Warm Greetings from Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa!

Yes the charges would be USD 15++ per day for storage and service .

We look forward to welcoming you to park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.

+1

We brought our food from Israel for lunches and dinners, and ate a prodigous amount of fruit, veggies, and fruit drinks for breakfast which held us over most of the day.

A burner and pan/pot is your friend. Only takes a few minutes to prepare s/t simple. If I want a culinary experience, I'll have it when I'm back home.

Will be in Maldives mid-Feb, and we will be staying at Park Hyatt on points.  Booking now before devaluation.  We will be there for 3-4 days.  Is this enough time to enjoy?  Also, what am I looking at in $$ damage besides the $510 pax from Male to hotel?  I hear that I should expect to pay $100-150 per person per day???  That's outrageous!  Is there no grocery store there?  haha  Also, is it best to do all points or points and cash?  TIA  Will be reading TRs but want to get info from all others who have experienced this amazing place.

Maybe look to buy signup nights from someone here. Those go for ~$250 or so and may be a better alternative than using points.

Haven't experienced it yet myself but going in May. I think 150$ is a fair estimate. You could bring your own food, and that would probably save up a lot of money. The whole island is a Hyatt resort so anything you will buy is via them. If you want to do things like scuba, boat rides, etc those are all thru the hotel and you will be paying as such...

Man some of the people on FT are super cynical; a few helpful. I sent the same exact comment on their site, and a couple said not to go if I'm going to penny pinch or to just go elsewhere because I'm not the type. What the? it's not like I can't afford it. Just being smart and stretching out my hard earned (and much easier earned) $$$. FYI C&P isn't available.

Maldives is one of the places I agree to: if you have to ask how much it costs you can't afford it

It's expensive, you can't go buy drinks in walmart, the resorts have no competition for all the extras, like dives, cruises, drinks.... you will have to pay what they charge

If you are stretching your budget to get there and will not be able to enjoy a coktail without thinking twice, maybe wait still a little to go there
