+1

Its his 3rd or 4th time there. Wouldnt make much sense to go to that type of place with the perks he gets and NOT love it.

Israelis are not allwed into abu dhabi or dubai. The visas that airlines offer are not for israelis... In dubai you can stay at a hotel in transit area. I did it, very simple and no immigration needed.

Israelis are offcially allowed into maldives, so staying there will not be a problem. There is one hotel at same island as airport. Nothing fancy, but good enough for a sleep before the seaplane. The airport is also connected via road to another small island, that has quite a few hotels you can sleep at and they all offer shuttle service. Cheaper then airport island hotel and only 5 min drive. As you see there is enough options without going into male city
If you stay at a local hotel and you are lucky, you might get on a seaplane at 8am....

We will probably end up overnighting in AUH in the transit hotel

I am skeptical about Israeli passport holders not being allowed in. Pretty sure you just need a visa (which both EY and EK allow you to apply online for in advance) and if you're staying for under 24 hours, you can transit with out a visa:
https://www.emirates.com/english/plan_book/essential_information/visa_passport_information/find_visa_requirements/visa_passport_information_results.aspx?NC=IL&NV=Israel&AC=US&AV=United+States&DC=MV&DV=Maldives&TC=AE&TV=United+Arab+Emirates&h=983382a2bc24b924cc9bcad7535a82bcfc8c2d7

Etihad twitter is insisting that a transit visa is required even if not leaving airport since layover is more that 8 hours.

I am assuming they are wrong, but the last thing I need is to be denied in JFK since I am not holding a transit visa.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Looks like the STR forced people to use the $365 buffet if they wanted to eat there during Christmas.

That would be worse than putting cameras in the bathroom!

Sorry if this has been asked before, to clarify, what Zone does AS consider MLE in for the purposes of a CX award?
If its Asia then it should only cost 50k J OW.
The Wiki says 62.5 is the cost (which would be Africa/ME/India zone)

Thanks
Seems to be a lot of conflicting info, see page 21 of this thread. (thats a direct link)
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alaska-airlines-mileage-plan/1375790-redeeming-cathay-pacific-ticket-using-alaska-miles-21.html
MMS says its part of ME http://millionmilesecrets.com/2013/12/17/what-can-you-do-with-50000-alaska-airlines-miles/
This comment says its ME https://www.milevalue.com/the-new-ultra-luxury-way-to-get-to-the-maldives-on-miles/#comment-44479

Lucky says its asia, whereas CMB is ME (the opposite of AA [though that might be only pre-deval])
http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/09/02/does-alaska-allow-stopovers-within-asia-on-award-tickets/

Guess I'll PUTPAC to confirm

It's 62.5k. Same AS miles to both MLE and TLV on CX.

For those coming to Maldives, be aware, for those coming from e.g. New York, the 10 hour time difference from Eastern Standard Time - can be very miserable. Maldives is UTC+5. Take along sleeping pills, so one can force sleep at night, and lots of coffee by day, to keep awake. Better yet, make a stopover for a few days on the way (where accommodation is not so expensive), so one can at least partially acclimatize to the time-zone change, so one can fully utilize the days in Maldives.
Didn't have any issues.

Seems like TPG is there now (after stopping at the hyatt maldives first). Hopefully he'll let us know if there are video cameras by the private pool   :D
