Why pay for Bangkok Airways when it's only 20k AF miles for Y or 30k CX points in J. You can't search online but the Air France reps were very helpful and it was a very painless process.

30k CX for PG J or CX J? The thought process was to minimize travel time between cities. I'm not against stopping in SIN or HKG, but I also wanted to avoid the late arrival into MLE and a night enroute to the resort. From researching it seemed that it was hard to find award availability on PG, is that not the case?

For PG J. I was just trying to give you cheapest partner currencies and also where to call to find availability.  Granted it was in Y but I just booked 5 ppl from HKG-USM for 50k total AF because like you I wanted direct, so they definitely have availability on certain routes. Just call AF and ask. Their reps were very helpful and even placed the tickets on hold so I could transfer the points.

What is the whether like at the beginning of August? Does the Maldives have "opposite seasons" where the nice whether is in Dec-Feb and it rains in August? I am looking to go from Israel for 5 days in August but if it is gonna be raining I may as well go to Greece.

But being that I took the time to read through this thread, the common consensus seems to be that our summer is the rainy season there, although many seem to say rain was brief and did not kill the trip.

I went in August for 5 days, Rain was not a problem whatsoever as it only rained early morning, but during the day it was entirely clear! Even though Mr. Sergei Brin's Google forecasted rain for our entire stay..

After speaking with the GM and his family, it seems rain is usually a non issue there even in the summer, as even when it does rain it lasts for a very brief period.

I don't use this Google thing you speak of cuz it is too Goyish. Now if they called it Koogle.....

Anyway, I was looking for experience not forecasts. If this question has been asked so many times, why is it not in the Wiki?
And finally, I was looking for flights and Turkish has the best flights and connections but..... Is it safe?

Anyway, I was looking for experience not forecasts. If this question has been asked so many times, why is it not in the Wiki?

So... if I said I went in the height of rainy season, and I had five days of glorious sunshine, you'd go? Or if I said I went in the height of dry season, and I had five days of cloudy, thunderstorms, you'd stay home?

You'd put more stock in the experience of people on DDF instead of a century of objective statistics propounded by weather agencies the world over?

If so, I have experience with selling bridges, and may have one just for you.

Why is it so hard for you to digest that he is asking a very simple question. Is the weather forecast reliable.

Why is it so hard for you to digest that he is asking a very simple question. Is the weather forecast reliable.

Asking whether a particular weather forecast is reliable, i.e. "it shows rain next week in MLE, does that mean it will rain?", is different from asking whether the established climate is reliable, i.e. "it shows that June is rainy season, does that mean it will rain every day?"

He was not asking the former; he was essentially asking the latter.  And to the latter, the answer was and is that regardless of what I, or anyone else, experienced--whether consistent with the historical climate pattern or otherwise--that experience does not add any value to the discussion.  As I said, the fact that I may have gone in dry season but got nothing but rain does not refute the historical climate showing that for the last 100 years the overwhelming majority of February does not get a drop of rain.

Why is it so hard for you to digest that?

Come join me in Chicago, and rely on the years of study put into the meteorologists report. You'll look like an idiot standing outside in shorts when it's snowing.

So you're the guy who--instead of trying to stack the deck in your favor by using objective, historical, climate information available to you--will instead travel 28 hours and spend thousands of dollars on a vacation based on the experience of some guy on DDF. "But he went in June and got no rain!"

You keep packing wool parkas and long underwear for Chicago, and I'll bring my shorts.  Statistics show you'll look like an idiot far more often than I will.

Don't be so quick to judgement. I was merely replying to your last point, not the entire statement. And I honestly don't care what history says, if it isn't repetitive. Do you know how many days this year I heard the forecaster saying we were getting record breaking weather? Too many. Bottom line is, I wear the same type of cloths daily, regardless of weather, but when I know a place is known to be inconsistent, I prepare for all reasonably possible scenarios.

Your obstinance is astonishing.  "I don't care what history says, if it isn't repetitive."  Uhm, climates are built off years and years of historical data.  By definition, based on averages, they are repetitive, else they would not be the climate. Smh.

"Do you know how many days this year I heard the forecaster saying we were getting record breaking weather?"  Wait, so your saying your individual experience this year, this time, this forecast, differs from the what the dude on TV said? Shocking, I tell you. First, as I explained in a prior post, no one is discussing particular forecasts. Everyone knows that meteorologists are notoriously crappy at their jobs, and the same is true for MLE.  Second, again, your individual experience does not disprove the historical pattern of the subject climate... unless your individual experience spans decades.

Does it?

I was just thinking that after Dan came back from his Maldives trip he would finally put the whole BOB VS MLE debate to rest
