Dear Mr as2,

Following our earlier correspondence about erroneous villa rates, we found a technical glitch that led our 3for2 promotion to incorrect villa types and gross overbookings.

Regrettably, your In-Ocean Sanctuary Pool Villa booked from 21 to 24 January 2019 was in fact, not available.

We are so sorry for the frustration this may have caused. However, we would like to recommend this solution for your consideration.

Based on reservations received, we have noticed that you are two to travel on all dates. Would you allow us to confirm your stay, 21 to 24 January 2019, in a Beachfront Jet-Pool Villa for 2 adults ?

You may refer to this link https://www.angsana.com/en/maldives/velavaru/rooms/beachfront-jet-pool-villa to find out more about Beachfront Jet-Pool Villa.

Upon your acceptance of the change of villa category, we would like to make your holiday a little more enjoyable by offering lunch and dinner buffets on a daily basis, with our compliments.

Our proposal will remain valid till 8 November 2018.

We look forward to the pleasure of making things right.

Warm Regards,

Honestly, nice of them to offer but probably not worth it.

@as2 - same. What are your thoughts? Worth it enough to keep fighting for the villa?

Personally, I didn't want to go on such short notice to begin with, but was going to do it because of the villa. I already booked another vacation in its place, so I will definitely be passing.

Hi...
New to the DDF's so pardon me if I break all protocol!
God willing planning a 7 day trip to the Conrad Maldives this January.
I'm coming from Israel.
Wondering if anyone has done the same and has a specific place they recommend for purchasing pre packaged frozen meals to take with us ?

Thanks...

Any place that does catering and can double wrap in aluminum foil.

I would suggest you label the meals using numbers such that the three pans marked number one are chicken, rice and green beans. Number two is Schnitzel, potatoes  and and broccoli and so on. That way you can easily tell the hotel staff to defrost and heat up meal number three or four without having to guess what it is or having them read Hebrew.

You can also bring a small sandwich presser and Chofetz Chaim deli and bread so that you can enjoy hot deli sandwiches for lunch or after a swim without going through the hassle of contacting the kitchen and having them heat something up.

Don't forget that if you are going for Shabbos you should take grape juice but not wine!!! The Maldives are a Muslim territory and you can get in big trouble for trying to bring in alcohol.

You might also consider bringing drinks from Israel if you want to save a few dollars per drink or if you want something like ice tea that won't have a hechsher there.

Don't forget to bring plenty of snacks and candy for in between meals.

P.S: Bring lots and lots of sunscreen or you will need to shell out $30-50 for a bottle.

Some hotels like the St Regis provide sunscreen and mosquito protection, but its always recommended to bring your own.

Wine is not permitted to enter the Maldives. While I was in the airport the guy in front of me had a bottle and they simply confiscated it, his pleading did not help. The serious consequences reported, usually dont happen, I believe.

The costumes authority tags bags suspected of violating import rules with a red sticker before baggage pick up. After the baggage pick up there is a barricade you'll walk through, if they see the red sticker they'll scan that piece of luggage ONLY. Assuming you know how to remove a sticker easily it shouldn't be a big deal, but be aware those stickers have many cuts, so they get hard to remove and they put on more then one per peice of luggage.

While not recommending it, I'm explaining how this can be done.

The St Regis provided me with a champagne bottle for a special occasion and had them change it for a bottle of kosher Herzog wine.
Always praying for delayed baggage.

Wow! They had Kosher wine on the spot or did you communicate with them in advance?

I sent them a email notifying them the stay is a special occasion, they put a bottle of non kosher champagne in the room. I asked the butlr if he can swap it for something kosher and sure enough they had something.
