Crazy, indeed.

See, things like this are made so much worse when resorts make reasons up instead of just being upfront.

While they are lacking in communication, they are new hotel and this type of stuff should've been clarified long ago.

I wonder what happens if you'll just show up. Are they going to arrest you? Would they give you a free ride back?

Reminds me of when I booked jetskiing in USM 40 minute drive from conrad (cheapest place). They asked me if I wanted to jetskii back to hotel instead of drive. I said sure. Little did I know, we pulled up to the hotel beach via jetskii to crash a wedding ceremony on the beach :). The hotel didn't say anything to me, but I'm sure the couple were furious :).

That's the point, imagine staying any Maldives resort and continues streams of people transit and just show up at random parts of the islands. Sea planes take off and land at specific areas, imagine ppl showing up with their own sea plane just landing out of no where...

The resorts are trying to keep stuff formal.......

Their lack of communication is abvisiosly lacking  but hey they just opened and it part of the process.

I'm looking to extend my stay at the WAI. If someone has a booking on 1/31, 2/1 or 2/2 and is about to cancel - please let me know.

Everyone that follows the FT thread about the new WAI can see that the management is lacking in price structure.
Well, now it came out to be on the guests' favor. For 2020 they changed the base room to be the RF and the BV is the higher category, Although they didn't change it for point redemption. So if you have already a booking for a BV you can get a free upgrade to a RV or an OWV, they actually call it a downgrade...
you can also book now a BV with points with available dates and then 'downgrade' it to an OWV.
This is what they wrote to me today:
"Please be informed that for next year we have changed our villa category. Kindly note that the Reef Villa will be our based category next will be the Overwater Villa and the Beach Villa.

Basically the Beach Villa will be a higher category compared to reef Villa and Overwater Villa."

So it's confirmed! OWV for the standard room award price.

Find any standard room award in 2020, book it (120k HH/BMG/weekend cert), then send an email to the one showed in the picture and ask to be 'downgrade' to the OWV et voila!

(Disregard the 0 points mention at the total, Hilton's IT need lots of improvement).

Is anyone planning to stay at the new JW Marriott over the next couple of months and can report back about their experience?

I emailed the JW Marriott Maldives Resort (the new scheduled opening date has been pushed back to 11/1/19) regarding the accommodation of heating up food that we bring along due to keeping a strict kosher diet.  I'm highly considering going here because of the ability to book directly into an OVW with points.

They responded to me that it's not necessary for me to bring along food because they can arrange kosher meals for us from Kosher Australia Pty Ltd.  They attached a Kosher Certificate from Rabbi Gutnick which had expired on 4/19/19 and also a 2018 menu (which I attached here if anyone is interested).  I can email Kosher Australia directly regarding an updated certificate, but first I want to know if anyone ever tried them and how the food was.

I tried searching this thread but only got results mentioning Australia from 2012 to 2016 and most were just talking about a kosher food list, I'd like to know from someone more recent if they tried the meals from this place but the past 50+ pages that I've read I didn't see  anyone mention it.

They did not say and was my first question in my email response to them.  Will update when they tell me.

I'm waiting to hear back on cost anyway, but I was not going to fully rely on that menu anyway for a 5 day trip and was going to tell them that we will be bringing at least partial food with us and we need them to please accommodate us either way with the storing and warming up etc.

If the cost is too high and/or I don't get any feedback with regard to quality and taste of this food I'm going to skip it and hopefully they will be just as accommodating at the STR, Conrad, and others.
