Hi everyone,

My wife and I are planning to go to the Maldives in a few months with and would really love any insight! I’ve read through a lot of this forum (and others) about the Maldives and we’re really excited about it. I have a couple of  questions:

1) I have 120k AA miles and we will be traveling from Europe, so we plan to fly Qatar Business one way and economy one way. (60k each). I’m assuming that would be the best use of miles? If Qsuites aren’t available on one of the legs is Qatar Business still worth it, or should we look for something else? Total flight time with stopover is around 13hrs.

2) I have the Aspire card and 380k Honors  points and used that to make a four night reservation(Ocean Villa)  at the WA. (I used 380k points and a free night certificate so I couldn’t take advantage of the 5th night free). The Conrad has availability for a 5 night water villa stay during that time. For those that have been to both, would you say that 5 nights at Conrad (and keeping my cert for another time) is better than 4 nights at the WA? I’m seeing bad reviews about the customer experience at the WA, and it’s making me a little nervous.
I understand the Maldives are expensive, and I’m Ok with that. I’m just trying to understand if I’m making the right choice. Is 4 nights at WA (Ocean Villa) better than 5 at Conrad (Water villa) and 1 somewhere else?

3) How’s the Kosher/Jewish accommodation at the WA? Are they pleasant about heating/storing meals and the like? The Conrad seems to very nice about it. Does either hotel charge for it?

4) Has anyone been to both? Does one of them have “nicer” water/snorkeling?

Thank you!

PSA:

The JW Marriott and St. Regis both told me that they both have kosher food for sale and provided me with prices.

St Regis: $45 for soup. $95 for Main courses

JW Marriott charges from $44 for chicken breast and chicken legs. $75 for Beef. They also mentioned that there is a charge for heating up meals depending on the time of day and venue (starting at $50 for breakfast). I believe that would be in addition to the cost of the dish.

Nah, that's for heating up your own meals.

But those prices are insane.

See my post a few pages back that has an attachment of STR menu so their prices were already known. They charge $35 per meal to heat up (as noted in my post as well) which now sounds cheap against the $50 and up the JW would charge.

STR now offering kosher dinners. Didn't try any as they didn't sound appealing, we brought our own. Was told that there will be $35 charge which still comes out cheaper than their meals but is obnoxious IMO.

Oh no

It's not the first attack.
They claimed credit for a stabbing recently.

In reality, security in Maldives  is a bigger issue then people would like to recognize.

Thanks to the amazing AC promo and wide open SQ availability I'd like to check out the Maldives some time in the foreseeable future.

I'm having a difficult time finding availability from SIN - MLE though. Seems it's operated by Silkair, does Aeroplan online show availability for this or will I need to call?

You can book silk air only with SQ. There's another flight SQ metal at night. Only the SQ one can be booked with *A partners.

They chrge a minimum of $50 per meal per person to heat up your own food?

did you post a TR? I would be interested in seeing it. If not can you answer a few questions like what you did for food and what they charged to heat it up?
