I heard something about Maldives restricting food on arrival due to Covid. Did anyone hear of such a thing? Wasn't able to find anything about it online.
As of when?

WA MLE
Nice!

I'm trying to pencil in a stay there in 2021 but i can hardly find more than 3 back to back nights at basic redemption.

How do you guys book? Do you first grab what's available and then hope that more nights will open closer to time?

yes, that is what i did. As thigns got closer more opened up. Also whenever i cancelled to rebook my nights always came back. This is imprtant bc you want to be able to get 5th night free.

I booked around a month before my stay and had no issues finding 5 nights available. I guess I got lucky!

Wow, that's amazing. I know people who are hawking WA Hilton site a year in advance to get those 5 consecutive nights as soon as award inventory loads.

I was just looking into a potential stay at STR.
On many dates I found that the cost of cash upgrade on top basic award redemption is extremely low:
OW: $25
Beachfront: $45
Sunset OW: $50
STR OW: $75
2BR OW or 2BR Beachfront: $200

This has been this way since the end of 2019. I had booked in mid 2019 the base room for early 2020 and inquired about upgrades and was given their normal very high pricing of around 500++ per night. I didn't bite and decided to wait and see. End of 2019 the above rates began showing and as I was still within the ability to cancel, I did so , and immediately rebooked directly into an STR OWV.
